For 2013, the Desert Run will undergo some route changes, including a stopover at the famous Hakskeen pan where they are doing all the top speed records, and it will be missing Koes, opting instead to stay at the far more luxurious Auob lodge. The good news is that the riding will be less enduro-related, and more adventure bike friendly, plus there will be more interesting things to see along the way. Below is the whole press release:

Easter Namib Desert Run 2013

Easter Friday March 29 to Friday April 5 2013

Changes To The Route And Two New Stopovers, Including Hakskeen Pan.
Trip More Adventure Bike Friendly.

Kuruman, Hakskeen Pan, Auob Lodge, Windhoek, Swakopmund.

Entry forms and other details will be published later, but meanwhile we are getting out some good news early.
The route will be more adventure bike friendly, with the notorious sandy section Molopo to Rietfontein being left out altogether. Motocross bikes and quads are still encouraged to participate as there will still be the Molopo River section and Hakskeen Pan and dunes and trails and Auob and of course the dunes.
We will also not stay at Molopo Hotel but will continue on to the famous Hakskeen Pan 60km further on, 20km before Rietfontein, where the Bloodhound car will be doing a thousand miles per hour (1610km/hr) sometime in 2013/2014.
We will substitute the usual Koes stopover with Auob Lodge, outside Gochas, and will thus have a shorter run to Windhoek.
Thereafter as usual through the awesome Khomas Hochland to Swakop and the usual programme.
A further change is that participants do their own booking at Swakop. See below.
