Bent tension strut ( para lever arm)

The thing BMW call a silver rod!!!! While playing with suspension settings on my adventure  i hit a washer away at around 60km/h on a gravel road two weeks ago. After bottoming out , the tension strut bent and touched the rear tyre. I have a replacement coming down from JHB, but would be keen to know if anybody has considered making these . The Wunderlich part looks great but way too expensive. I also note some guys have fabricated their own out of round bar etc!!!!A little dicy I would say, I think these arms are designed to bend. With a well designed machined part I think it could be cheaper but still have the crumple zone characteristics needed.

Any one know of something in this line
