New Member to the Family

I found my thumper! 1981 Honda XL500s. A 1 owner bike near Vredendal. What I do know is that one back flicker is bust and I'm pretty sure there will be lots of maintenance and small things to do to get it back to perfect condition. Was loaded on the courier and now hoping for delivery Monday.

I'll post some better pics once it is here.

Ek sal die gewone maintenance goedjies doen. Wheel and headstock bearings, good scrub down. Sekerlik nuwe kokke en ketting. Ek sal graag die verfwerk en side covers wil oorspronklik hou en as jy op die een foto kyk sal jy sien dat die factory sticker nog op die side cover is. So die moontlikheid is daar om hulle en die tank oorspronklik te hou.

Dit gaan my daily drive wees. Nou nie werk toe nie, heeltemal te bang om saam met 3milj cages op die Ben Schoeman te klim, maar hy gaan verder in al my fiets ry benodighede moet voldoen.

Ek wil ook Army Surplus Store toe die naweek. Wil 'n stel soft-luggage bewerkstellig.

Picked up the XL from the depot in JHB yesterday morning. Was a bit disappointed, but not really surprised, that the bike was not in the condition as promised. So on our way back to Pretoria, we stopped off at Startline and collected some replacement parts and got out the tools and cleaning agents as soon as we got back home. Grafted the most of yesterday (Thanks Bike_Buddies  :thumleft: ) replacing and cleaning parts, and I must say, it finally looks like the bike I thought I bought. Still needs some work, like seat cover and some TLC on the exhaust headers, but will get to that in time. Motor is super sweet!!

Replaced:
1. Rear-view Mirrors
2. Brake and Clutch Levers
3. Front Light - whole unit - what a mission to get all the wires and harness plugs back into that small plastic cover.
4. All 4 Flickers -  XT type, but I think they look okay.
5. Handle Bars - bought ATV high bars so no need for lifters. Much better riding position.
6. Grips
7. Brake and clutch cables.
8. Rear Brake Light Switch

 :thumleft: looks schweet, you right with pics you never get what you think you bought, but does not look bad at all . and the startline bits are cheap

@Rooikat - ek wil van ou army rugsakke 'n paar maak. En 'n carrier rak ook, maar ek sal skip op die top-box. Sal as ek terug is van die Roof af by die Surplus Store 'n draai gaan maak en sien wat beskikbaar is.

@the_BOBNOB - Yes you do. Bikeking Acc here in PTA sells them. Bridgestone Trail Wing @ R1000 a pop. Not cheap but available.

Top box is handig as jy gaan inkopies doen - waar bere jy jou helmet?

Daai slotte beteken nie veel nie, maar as jou helmet soos myne lyk, gaan daar nie veel "aanvraag" vir hom wees nie!
