Despite poor performance etc etc that comes out of the woodwork........could Steinhoff really be worth R12.25 or just the after affects of a big sell-off?

The problem is no-one knows until we get reliable figures from them.

But the market has lost a lot of trust and will punish that share for a while - my personal feeling.

I agree  :thumleft:

markets normally over-react, but the problem with SNH is that nobody really knows how big the fraud is or the size of possible fines

Many people are suffering because of this - SNH was held in many funds and portfolios

If most what is presently assumed is true, and Markus Jooste does not spend time in prison, I guess one will have to seriously reconsider investments - diversifying has again been proven to be absolutely essential, even when dealing with so-called blue-chip shares

Hi all
i have a question can a individual (me) buy shares online?
do you need to be registers to do trading?
where do you start? do you have to go trough a broker / your bank
what would be a reliable online site to use
is there transaction fees, and what would be the average rate / fee

im banking with absa

i dont have millions to invest but i would want to give it a try

I know this is a very long thread to go through, but in the first few pages you will find answer to all those questions. You will also gain a huge amount of knowledge by reading the first ten to fifteen pages alone.

I trade through ABSA and am fairly happy with them
I have 3 accounts with them: TFSA, ETF Only and Smart account for normal shares
If your trades for normal shares are fairly small, ABSA is probably not your best option and you should perhaps consider Easy Equities

eish, that's bad!  :'(

I had just under 20 000 shares, but sold 75% off in November at just under R63 - my average cost was R48, so I still have a loss of just under R200k, but at least made just over R200k on the ones I sold

Thats rough.

Steinhoff at R6...........that surly cant be........how much cooking could have been done to justify this? Surely the scrap cost is more!

I bet you some big company is already busy with plans to take it over

I took a wild chance and bought at R11.  With money that I don't mind if I lose.  My view is that in the long run they will get through this mess and recover.

I am seriously considering buying some now.

Fck, also made a big loss, bought at R60.

Surely it must be a good buy now............ I mean, how messed up can they be?

The price is "artificially"  driven down now by the funds that are dumping them.
