Day 8
We left Steytlerville riding the gravel road that runs along the Baviaans mountains on the way to Warmwaterberg Spa near Barrydale. Hopefully we?ll have a bit more luck this time.
Rudeasy hitting a sand patch at speed and negotiating it successfully:
Pity about this photo of KiLeRSA, a split second later his back wheel was in the air!
There were a few muddy patches along the way and they proved to be tricky ? in relation to the dry road we should have been more alert as it was an indication of a real sludge pit!
Notice the points of escape in the pics!
Damn those strappings!
The last gravel of the journey, coming out near Uniondale. From here we hit tar via De Rust to the spa. At Oudtshoorn we were again pelted by the rain and wind.
At last, a spa with hot water. And very decent restaurant and amenities in general. After a good meal and wine which were consumed in reflective silence we retired to our bunks. The next day I would start my journey back to Jhb, with the idea of doing some gravel from the spa to Laingsburg. Well, it began to rain during the night and I knew that the boringness of the highways was my ?voorland?.
