Great result for South Africa and especially the youngsters.  Jarvis did get a bit lost, but it is about crossing the line first....  Birch was not on top form, he clearly showed lot more fatigue at the end of stages than previous years.  Darryl Curtis did so well, he has obviously put in a lot of effort as part of his Dakar campaign - well done to him too!  And every other rider who exceeded his / her perceived abilities!
We had a great weekend as spectators, keep an eye on the RR section while Michiel and friends sort their photo's.  Next year, same place....

Unreal, Jarvis is rated the top extreme rider in the world. for anyone to pip him would take some doing. Well done to Wade for an exceptional performance and to Altus. This has to be one of the closest finishes in years.

It was a huge upset! He took the lead and never surrendered it. Unbelievable talent. It was his first Roof, and he ran in front all the time having to navigate virgin territory. Absolutely stunning!

I managed a 7th in Intermediate, although I came in at 4th  :patch:. Had a great time!

We also had an awesome trip.
Really well done to both Wade and Altus. Clever decision to take a time penalty on the last stage and change to trials tyres...
Any of you see the size of the fan on Wade's bike?  :eek7:

Respect dude!  I spoke to a buddy of mine who decided to downgrade to Bronze.  He mentioned a bleeding butt amongst other issues on his body and just ended up breaking the bike trying to make the cutoffs.  Loved Lesotho, but said that he will probably not do The Roof again!!

Thanks. I said the same after my first Roof, but it has a way of getting under your skin, and come July you see yourself entering again.

I did a decent silver last year, but it took a lot out of me. This time I decided to rather enter bronze as I didn't have the time nor the motivation to train hard, and I wanted to enjoy the race and have some fun along the way. I am really glad I did. Already looking forward to next year's race!
