Remember seeing the first front wheel drive cars when we were first exposed to them.. Ugly!! Crap to work on!! Expensive!! Don't handle!! I can't even remember all of the terrible comments we had, as we stood in the workshop and inspected the first VW Golf that EL Government Garage was issued..
Thirty years later and I have worked on so many of them it's silly. I can do a clutch on one in less than an hour, there are still loads of them reliably running around, they are cheap to maintain, they DO handle well and I have created so many really quick monsters out of them, it's unbelievable.. Now.. we are commenting on how the Golf six is all of the above.. Ha ha ha!! Strange how we like what we are used to.. I am guilty as well, I often comment about change in a negative manner. Truth is that the guys have to change.. Daring design changes are what make them stand out from the rest at the shows.. I think these little 300's are great little bikes.. We will probably never see them in SA but there will be others..
Remember reading Bike SA's in the early 80's and seeing artists impressions of what they thought the future in bike design had to offer. MAN!!!! Were they so wrong..! The guys have done BETTER than anyone was able to predict..
Heh heh.. Sorry guys, I am just a bike nut and making them different makes them better to me..
