KTM 690 performance
« on: December 06, 2012, 11:45:31 am »
I need some help from the experts please.

I am looking to add a 690R to my garage as the 990 adv is a bit too big for the realy technical stuff. I had a 640 adv but to say the least I hated the bike. I had it for a couple of months and used it to bly with the guys on plastics, did one 400km on tar and advertised it the next day and replaced it with a 530 XCRW.

So my question is, how much of an improvement is there from the old 640 LC4 to the 690. I'm looking for something similar performance wise to the 530.

Thanks for the help!

Am also looking at the Husq 610 and the Aprillia RXV 550

As mens eers die vibrasies gewoont raak is dit 'n great fiets.

Die 2012 690R het aansienlik meer krag as die 640. Virbreer ook nie naastenby so baie nie. Sodra ek kan gaan ek een in my garage parkeer  :deal:

The three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40 and a hammer.  If it moves and it shouldn't, use the duct tape.  If it doesn't move and it should, use the WD-40.  Otherwise use the hammer.

i did 180 kph on mine this morning coming to work on the n1 so more than enough power imho
and so far its standard, only akro pipe

you can also set the fuel mapping under the seat for more responsiveness etc

i also frequent the Maris dunes and the power on the sand is just so addictive

I rode the 690 and 640 back to back when I was shopping , I climbed of the 690 onto the 640, and it felt heavy , slow and cumbersome , IMO the 690 is YEARS ahead of the 640 and much more power and responsive , just my 5 cents

My dad has a 640 and I have a 690.....you cannot compare the 2 at all, the 690 is closer to your 530 than it is to the old KTM 640.

The 690 is light and handles the rougher terrain like an offroad bike .....  :ricky:

Really fun to ride !!!!!!

Agreed, I went from a 990 to a 690. Took both to very tech terrain and can ride the 690 nearly as hard as my 300. Subsequently put an Oryx kit on and now have best of both worlds.

I did exactly the same. Loving the 690!
It's a friggin' motorcycle, it's not supposed to be comfortable, quiet or safe. The windnoise is supposed to hurt your ears, the seat should be hard and riding it should make you scared every now and then. Suck it up. -- Scary Gary Mc

The RXV was the most exiting bike I have ever ridden but if you stand back and think about it it's a no go. I have read you only get 11km/l, aftermarket tanks very expensive. You have to remove the engine to set the valves and it has a on / off throttle response. I have the TE610 and as mentioned people really do enjoy them, what I do not like at the moment is that it feels like it needs at least another 5hp and I have had to replace and repair a couple on things on the mechanical side. I still have a few things planned for it. You did the right hing buying the 530, sure you will enjoy the 690 too.

It is the high 990R, her feet can not even touch when she is on a old 650 GS  :lol8:
