Found out something interesting yesterday:

MacDuff's TKC80 90/90-21 has two plies of nylon. A very "soft" tire.
He had lots of foreign object punctures.
Most front tires have three.
Most rears have four. Sometimes less in the sidewall. (The latter two figures taken from OEM Bridgestones on my DR)

The Kings KT966 come as 4PR front (3.00- 21) and a whopping 6PR (5.10-17) rear.

Now the interesting part:
I have churned trough piles of KT966 on LeCap's bikes during the last seven years.
I don't remember any foreign object puncture on any of the KLR / DR / F650 Dakar (nine in total) fitted with the KT966 whilst the other bikes (3 to 4) fitted with Bridgestones, Michelins,... had punctures every now and again.

I never realized the difference in the number of canvas layers. Always thought they are all more or less the same.

Obviously a tire with plenty of canvas layers will be a bit heavier.
But is it as it seems also more puncture proof?

All uncle Google turned up was car / truck related: A high PR tire can carry more load / contain higher air pressures and has a stiffer sidewall.
It seems obvious to me that a 6PR also resists penetration better than a 4PR - ?

BTW: I never used heavy duty tubes. Standard Kenda / Kings or Bridgestone for obvious reasons.

Where are the tire experts?

What's your experience?
