What there is a new BMW F800GS TWIN  :o :o ;D ;)

Well it has been said that it might be launch here in London at the NEC motorcycle show in November... well I for one hope it is, then I can see it in the flesh  ;D ;D
But then again it was also said it would be lauched in July but that has come and gone  :-\ :-\

cheers

H

Just looked at the NEC programme to see if the F800GS was going to be launched there... Yup you guessed it .. No mention of any launch from BMW....  Look like it might never get launched   :-\ :-\ :-\

H
If all else fail's, I go and ride my BIKE ....

I think they might have a problem though - how many people on this forum would like a badassed 800GS ?

If they brought him out in an 'adventure' package they will see serious drops in the 1200GSA's sales figures.

I think (and this is my opinion) that lots of okes would think the 1200 is too big and the dakar too small.
A narrow 800 twin would be the perfect 'round the world' bike.

But then again, all the BMW smouse (except our own Freakonaleash obviously) that I've met all subscribe to the 'bigger is better' school. If that's the case BMW will be faced with the catch 22: Make the 800 a badass adventure tourer and lose sales on your 'flagship 1200adv', or only bring out a 'softroad version' (like the standard GS) and maybe p off a couple of people.

Or make this (and sell it) as the ulitimate one up around the world tourer alongside the 1200adv - the 'round the world two-up tourer...

I don't know.

I just know that if I hear how the road guys love the 800twin engine on the F800S I think the 800GS will be a very cool and desirable bike.

My concerns, are that the relatively poor sales of the G series and the HP2 issues, they may go seriously soft with it TRANSALP STYLE !!!!!!! very competent very uninspiring, like achoice between Angelina and the choirboy, depends what floats your boat. 8) 8) 8)

The 800 GS will be HARDCORE, a true adventure bike with lots of trick offroad components.

My reason for saying this, they have the other segments in their pocket and it will not make sense for them to steal sales from the 1200 series. This bike is going to be wild and it will compete in a new segment for BMW.
do not live in the CITY !!!!!

I truly hope you are right
but I have this feeling it is going to be a soft-roader with maybe an HP or 'Dakar' version for adventure riding

I asked about a "softer" one and the answer was ... "Not that I know of."
I asked about a "lower" version and the answer was ... "Might get one later."
I then said ... "Now what about those of us that do not want a beast like this and wants to have a more comfortable bike for touring?"

The answer was ... "We have the 650 and the 1200 for that."

I then said ... "You guys are cruel!"

The answer to that will not be printed here :)

Yes TopBox I do get the same impression ... at the least it is clear to me that they are positioning the bike very carefully to not kill off existing market share and give reason for a mass migration.

the 800 is a great engine, really awesome..

it will make the 800gs more capable of touring than the current 650 range.

it will shift my mindset from having a 11fiddy/12gs as a tourer, along with the 650 dak for the more hardcore stuff,
to having the 800gs for touring, as well as the capability of the dak(maybe) and the xchallenge for the more hardcore stuff.

but before any of this happens...

KTM better pull their fingers out and get the 690 "Adventure" model out next year or THEY'LL be losing market share to BMW!
