Well, I bought the ST and couriered her down to PE in a cage. On Friday last week I popped down to Jet Park to pick her up. The PO had said that he took the bike for a test ride so I decided that I would test ride the machine home. Once at the courier I grabbed my bag 'o bits loaded them on the bakkie and wheeled the bike out of the courier garage. I have never owned a monolever, I have the paralever airhead and an early oilhead paralever. It follows that when I turned on the ignition and hit the start button nothing happened. The motorrad vas not speakink to me. I checked the side stand out of oilhead habit, the bike was on center stand, I also peered at the kill switch closely. Everything seemed right. The bike was definitely in neutral because I could spin the rear wheel. For no rational reason I decided to hold the clutch in try to start. I was "rewarded" with that sheiss clattering sound that a motorad makes when the battery is flat. Wunderbaar! CHeck the bakkie, jumper leads are not there, removed at work, not put back by me

After a brief trip to Midas in Walmer I had the motorrad connected to the bakkie. Now I could crank... and crank and crank. Turns out the choke on the Bings was not connected up. You have to be a special kind of contortionist to start a machine that has a clutch safety start system and no choke cables. After sukkeling for a while I thought I should call the PO to see if there was a "trick". He said that he got someone to hold in the clutch for him while he choked the left carb leaving his right hand to operate the starter button and that I should avoid giving her any throttle. That was pretty much what I was doing except I think I gave her some throttle. Did I give her throttle? Not sure. What about fuel in the carb? Is there even fuel in there. I dropped the carb bowls and tossed the fuel in them. There was a healthy flow from the tank. Both floats look like balsa. Is it balsa? Not sure. I choked the left carb and tried again. She started. A nice boxer twin growl from the odd looking auspuffrohr. The auspuffrohr seems to be very much a straight through affair.

More on the ride home and general impression of the bike later. I'm off to work now. Here are some pics of things that came in the big bag. I have fitted the ST front hugger. Panels will need some mounting tab surgery.
