Last year I decided to attend Mother’s informal but by now annual “New Year’s Bash”, this time held in Hanover. I enjoyed the get together, especially the company and ended up doing a few days solo ride in the Karoo – check out some pics here: https://wilddog.net.za/forum/index.php?topic=87432.msg1734407#msg1734407
So when Mother announced his end of 2012 Carnarvon plans, I decided to make the effort again. As with the previous trip, this was the exact spot where I hit dirt again for the first time, but now exactly 364 days later
I left Cape Town on the 31st, later than planned at around 13h00 as I, among other things, had to turn back to get my passport. According to the GPS I had more than 600km to go to Carnarvon, so I had no option but to push on. First stop for fuel was in
From here it was nice gravel again through Fraserburg, and then another stretch of good road to Carnarvon. With 34km’s to go,
I figured I would have enough light left to make it to Carnarvon, so I could stop to admire the sun setting for the last time in 2012:
And what a sunset it was!
I arrived at the hotel with the last light, where Mother greeted and sorted me / my room out. The whole town was full of ALL the people in the Karoo. The farmers were having a traditional new year’s sokkie inside the hotel, the locals were at each other outside, and I was entertained by Mother, Mrs Mother, Dawido, Sean, Piston Pete, DirtYarpie and Heimer until just after midnight, when I decided it was time for some beauty sleep after a long day.
