Does anyone know what the life expectancy of the 690 engine is in terms of KM's?

Ride it like a girl and you may get some sort of life expectancy, but otherwise budget for a rebuild at 25,000 - 30,000 kms.

You're kidding right? Please back up silly claims like that with some facts. I rode the shit out of my 640 and sold it with 45k km and it was running perfectly

I sold mine with 35000 km . No problems

The problems seems to be after 30000km if I interpret the above correctly

You sold it and bought another one with less mileage on it; didn't you?

Spoke to a friend about his 690, done over 40 000kms with no issues, including a Namibia and Angola trip. He rides the balls off his bike with no issues, so in my view, KAK story about engine life.
Just because your past did not turn out like you wanted it to does not mean your marriage will not be better than you ever imagined it could be.

Also starting to think about a 690.

I want long range tanks but not the full kit or Oryx. What can you guys recommend? What is the range then?

Dwerg, mine looks different from when you last rode it! Rally-raid tanks fitted, get between 380 and 450 km between fills depending on the right hand :3some:
Keep on munching :)

I still like the 690. Despite what many say, I think it would be a great bike for me.

a ride to the shops and back on my 690 leaves me grinning like a loon,
no matter how hard I try no ride ends without at least 4 wheelies and at least one major jump from a pavement or sandy hill.
I get off after 5ks and my hands shake like a meth addict needing a fix! I just look at her now and the adrenalin starts to flow.

Juls I could not have put it any better!!!
That's exactly what it feels like to own one
I'm 7000 miles away from mine at the moment,
Just looked over some pics of a recent solo trip to Lesotho
And my whole body is quivering.
Need that fix?!.....Boy do I ever!

Can somebody please tell me at what revs the 690 motor is running when
cruising in top gear at around 120 km/h ?

I Still want to do a side by test against a 990 and 1200
acceleration run from 120 to 160.
I think the 690 will smoke them both,

I think the 690 will smoke them both,

the acceleration from 4500rpm is pretty wild - and mine cannot go full throttle,  or past 6000rpm yet.
cannot wait till she's run in...

We did that test with my ex super enduro and a friends 690. The SE won, but surprisingly not by a lot. That day the 690 impressed me a lot..
Trust that little voice in your head that says 'Wouldn't it be interesting if...'; And then do it.
