I wonder what the actual reason is behind the cancellation?

Ja me too. "Situations beyond their control" ... hmm... Like maybe the cost?

reason is probably gov'munt red tape.... it is the Union Buidlings after all...

Had an update from my SIL. (unofficial)
The Tschwane municipality is all for the event and actually is pleading for it to go ahead.
The decision to cancel was primarily based on respect to the potential (and likely) passing of Madiba. Should the passing happen close to the event, a sporting celebration of this nature is deemed irresponsible at what will probably be the "heart of mourning".

There are financial implications as well, as in the last week, all suppliers were requiring phase 2 payments, amounting to many millions (riders-teams etc included).
So should the event have to be cancelled from a security point of view (many heads of states are expected in/thru/around Pretoria) the losses and disapointmants would be even greater.

SO all in all a very tough decision, but at this stage NOT governmant induced, they were ultra keen.

As said, not an official release!

Ja this is bad man. I know of a couple of guys that are down R5k-R7k even after ticket refunds. Hotels, flights, etc.

People say nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day. And doing nothing often leads to the very best kind of something.

IMO I think all this hype of Madiba passing and the mass killings of while folk which some political parties are threatening has also scared away the organisers of the event.

Agreed the passing of Madiba will in the future be a sad day, however important people pass away around the world, and that doesn't affect events around the world, or cause events that people have invested in to be cancelled.

I have a business partner in Australia and he even contacted me with the news of Madiba being ill, asking if I am safe in South Africa and should I look at coming over to Australia until it is "safe" in Africa again.

It is sad that we have to even think these types of things, however it is a reality with some of the clowns we have making silly public statements of hate against other people.
