Stofdonkie
Grey Hound
During last week Country Gal and I developed another riding itch that needed urgent scratching. We don’t have time for long trips, so we have to make do with as many short weekend blasts as possible.
With some good weather being forecast we planned our route, cancelled the Saturday Horticultural Engineer and organised a baby sitter for the pook.
I’ll skip the boring bit to Ceres.
In the Karoo Poort we took a kêffie-paai brunch break under the trees.
CG sharing some of her (not so unsubstantial) sweetie larder with some local kids.
And off we go in search of Zen.
We took the Matjiesfontein road. My weapon of choice for this trip. Awesomeness. :love10:
(Sorry, Oom Dan. Dis weer net BM's )
We turned off to Pienaarspoort.
When I last went through here this was a small twee spoor track with Proteas growing in the middle. ???
Now it’s a proper road! Progress … :
CG wondering what I was on about.
I have to say that I prefer the Kloof to the Poort.
Seeing that, so far, nothing had broken, seized or fallen off the old boy, CG decided to give it a try. Judging by the squeals coming through the intercom, I think she enjoyed it. Old school stylin'.
In Touwsrivier we stopped for fuel and something cool.
Two stunning milkshakes. In the glasses, boys, in the glasses.
When you’ve stopped for half an hour, and this is the only oil lying under a 30 year old bike, then you’re having a good day.
From Touwsrivier we headed towards Kruisrivier.
CG having some fun along the way.
At least the bike had a wash for a change … :lol8:
At Bloutoring.
CG …
… and me.
At Kruisrivier we turned off for Anysberg.
We took some lesser known tracks.
X-County and jockey in their element.
Taking a break to admire where we are. This side of the Klein-Karoo is by far my favourite piece of the planet.
CG was suitably impressed by the hill she just conquered.
Back on the main drag towards Vrede. Towerkop in the distance.
At Vrede we took a break under the trees. There was not a soul in sight. In fact, through out the entire day we saw people only in the towns.
Heading towards the Laingsburg-Ladismit road.
Back on the gravel highway.
CG heading off …
… with me trying to keep up. Is it still considered 'Meerkating' if the ride is that cool?
By now I could smell the dop at Dwarsrivier.
The beautiful Towerkop always in sight.
We arrived at this friendly establishment.
The newly opened Entertainment Centre.
The Main Activity Centre. Still waiting for the starters gun.
The best hammie in the world rounding off a great day.
Sunday to follow …
