Qatar International Rally .......... LOTS OF PICS!!!
« on: January 25, 2013, 08:00:53 pm »
Look who I met today, what a brilliant guy!

He is moer friendly, I just walked right up to him at the Qatar Rally today, shook his hand, introduced myself and told him I am a huge fan! He immediately recognised my accent and asked if I am from South Africa, so we chatted about the Dakar and other rally stuff for a while, then he sommer tunes me: "Hey, take my number, call me next week, you and your friends come stay with me in my desert bivouac next weekend, we go drive in the dunes"

I am like....................... huh??

For fooking sure Nasser!!

So I took his cell number, chatted a bit more, then he was off to the start line...............

What a cool dude!

Jirre, you must see him drive this Ford Focus  Fiesta !!   :o :o :o

Here are some more pics......................  WARNING......... there are A LOT !!

 O0

Waiting and kak praat at the start of Special Stage 3

These guys are incredibally fast, it is mind boggling to see the speed the drive, and the terrain was very rocky!

Locals with Qatar's national vehicle

One of the sharp corners on Stage 3

One of these cars are mine……………..  Hehehehe, its pretty cool, you can drive right up to the racing route, after the stage I drove the rest of the special stage myself, in the opposite direction.

Some cars looked a bit worse for wear, I am no mechanic…………………. But there's your problem……

Nasser Al Attiya is the top driver, and it shows, the mechanics working frantically to repair / service the car, while Nasser is doing the PR thing.

Duct Tape holds the universe together!

More of Nasser and Giovanni, his co-driver, I feel for this dude, if you have seen Nasser drive you will understand!!

Plenty of rubber to go around!

Some of the other teams

More to follow.........

Some more action shots, these guys are fast!!

This was a very impressive and fast corner, the guys went around it so fast, drifting into the high speed corner, it absolutely amazes me how they can keep that car in control at that speed!

Hahahaha , for sure!!

When I spoke to Nasser after Stage 3, he said the driving was incredibly difficult because of all the loose rocks, it was tough going. He said he missed his Dakar Buggy for this type of terrain!

Hi Neil,
Nope, no bikes in this one.

This is the 1st round of the FIA Middle East Rally Championship

The Sealine Rally is in April, and this will hopefully include some of the big guns of Dakar!

Here is a video of the 2012 Sealine Rally

I also attach the 2012 Motorbike Entry list here, some of the big shots raced last year, hopefully 2013 will see some big names as well.

Thanks for the links Knopkop

Its on the FIM world championship calendar, so it should have the usual Dakar crowd there, Coma, Helder, Sam, Kuba etc.

Are you going to give it a bash?  :deal:

I could not believe the speed they go at, it was my first time at a rally event, I was blown away at the speeds! But even more impressive than the actual corner is the braking before the corner, remember they are blasting down a straight stretch right up the the corner so when they brake, the car is all over the place, sometimes very sideways as they try to reduce speed to take the corner, how they actually keep it all together is beyond me!  But really impressive to watch

Unbelievable  ! :drif: Skills like that really impress me.  Do they start riding when they are 4 years old over there ?

And are you going to go stay in his desert bivouac ?

I will give Nasser a call today, when I chatted to him on Saturday evening he said it's all good and I am welcome anytime, so I just need to get the time and location from him, then I will see him on Friday at his bivouac.  ;)
