Not much more than a decade ago a 500cc single was big dirt bike , good enough for the longest adventures. I had been riding XR and XL 500's for a while when my mate got the new XR600R and wow the thing was wild , only for the wildest best riders. Fast forward to today and chicks ride 800's.

I'm not excluding myself here,  I've had a couple of 950 and 990's and done about 120000kms on them, and I'm a scrawny dude that battles to pick it up. Just like cars and bakkies , bikes have continued to get bigger, faster more complex every year and it shows no signs of stopping.

Are we enjoying our rides more as bikes get bigger ? I doubt it.
Are the bikes more dangerous even with the safety aids ? Without doubt.
Are the costs going through the roof ? You bet.

I think I've come to my senses. I see a 140/150kg single coming my way soon.

Anybody looking for a super neat 2008 KTM990S with lots of extras give me a shout
