Drastic increase in sales of Honda CTX 200 Bushlander
« on: November 05, 2007, 07:39:38 am »
Ja-nee.  In marketing exposure will always increase sales.  With Trailrider's extensive posting and praises re his trusty ride, the Honda CTX 200, I must relate this info.  It would appear that someone visits the Wild Dog Forum and take note of how we rate a particular bike.

Saturday I pasted the local Honda dealership here in PE, and, as we say in time of bewilderment, WTF!  The place was infested with CTX200's.  Everywhere you look, there is one of the little red rides standing.  I just could not ride past, so I made a sharp U-turn to go and investigate.

The dealer principle did not want to give me all the information I wanted (even though he happens to have been my neighbour in the 1990's, and thus one would assume some more "inside" information would be forthcoming).

All I could gather was that a single client ordered 60 of the bikes!  One of the mechanics (when caught of guard) did however mentioned that the bikes are being prepped for shipment "north" in to Africa somewhere???  So my guest is this is some United Nations, African Unity or some outreach/upliftment thingy.

Any way,  this post is thus dedicated to Trailrider  -  and as they say "eat your heart out, baby!"

Cellphone photo quality unfortunately.

That dealer must contact TR to sign each one thus further increasing their value!

Geez. No wonder there is no stock countrywide.

I read a blog somewhere of people traveling through Africa by bike doing a fund raiser. They wanted to buy CTX200's for some cause in Africa. Must be them.

Nice pics! ;D

I went to a presentation given at KTM WC of the one done last year.

It is an incredible concept.

The clients come from around the world and pay - I think but I cant remember the figure about 5000 pounds. They get a 2 week trip through the eastern cape through some of the more beautiful parts on the bike that when they finish the trip gets packed into a container and sent off to parts of Africa.

The bikes and some of the funds are then used for local medical people to get to the more remote areas. Some of the bikes are kitted with a side car so that they can act as an ambulance to get really sick people back to the major centres.

The documentary that I saw showed the punters weren't all rich people. Some were postmen who had got sponsorship to do the deed.

It looked like a lot of fun and all the punters were deeply moved by the experience. All the bikes that they had ridden had a "passport" so they knew before the trip where their particualr bike was going to be going. The receivers of the bikes make and effort to keep the donor updated with the latest news.

Some of the riders even threw all their riding gear in with the bike after they were finished.
I wonder where that gravel road goes? And that, has usually made all the difference. (Apologies to Mr Frost)

Last year they used Yamaha AG 200's, this year it is the CTX.

See http://www.enduroafrica.com/home.htm

Another event organized by Mike Glover and Red Cherry Adventures.  We bumped into them whilst they were doing their route in our area.
