Camping site near Riebeek Kasteel or similiar
« on: February 05, 2013, 03:15:40 pm »
Hi guys,

Looking for a camping site, having a hard time with sleeping-out and these kind of sites. It's my gf's first longish ride on her new bike, so while reliability, comfort etc is being checked out, I'd like to find a place nearby (as in near Riebeek Kasteel, or anywhere in that vicinity because it feels nice and remote and raw there). Will be tenting it. Anything up to an hours ride from Durbanville is good I guess.

I just don't have the know how of the places yet to just point and go.
I picked a thread subject so that it could be useful to others searching for a similiar thing in the future. :)

Shotto!
Marlon

Not quite Riebeek Kasteel, but Tweede Tol in Baineskloof is also quite pleasant.

Just check what other activities might be going on, they sometimes cater for weddings etc over weekends.

Mmm, it seems after heavy searching and asking, that it is impossible to find "serene" type "tent and camp" type sites. They are all busy, and tightly packed, and there seems to be nothing where you can feel remotely secluded. Had a look around, and if there's anything near Riebeek or Moorreesburg or something that has a non-group-of-people-building-team-spirit-for-the-office type vibes, my ears are still open  :thumleft:

Why not try De Hoop... even if the campsite is full its set out in such a way that you never feel crowded.

Places like Tweede Toll are always busy on weekends, but perfectly quiet during the week.

What about camping somewhere on a farm in the Riebeek Valley - or do you need all the camping facilities (electricity etc).  Can phone a few friends in the area.

Sorry, shameless bump, but it's already Turdsday, and I would like to know if I can get this booking done.
Anyone, with a farm, where I can settle for a night, please. :)
The camping scene in Riebeek Kasteel/Wes seems to be cryptic and indiana Jonesy to figure out.

There aren't many nice or safe places to camp in that region. But the whole Swartland area is a gem for a gravelriding weekends or daytrip outrides.

If I were you I'd also google places like  "Die Ark", its at Koringberg. Just off the N& about 10km after Moorreesburg. Close to this is also Misverstand Dam, which I believe also has a campsite. The gravel roads in that area links up with Porterville, and there you'll find Waterval Laatson (Where Riebeeker is holding his Birthday this weekend), and on the top of the mountain you'll find Beaverlac, which is lekker rustic, and they dont take bookings.

all of these places are about 30-45minutes further than Riebeeck

go check it out!

Thanks Riebeek,
but you have done more than is needed, I owe you a large bag of Biltong already.
Seems the rain is predicting "thunderstorms" (cape town, hahaha) this weekend, so it might just have bought me a week extra to plan the ultimate ride and camp with my girlfriend :-)
Seriously though, thanks, owe you!  :thumleft:
