I looked at the spec sheet of the new 1200GS and looked at the weight.

DIN unladen weight, ready for road: 238 kg
Permitted total weight: 450 kg

It is the last one that grabbed my attention, 450kg total weight....

Now the bike weighs 238kg and if we go by their golden rule that leaves 212kg. Now, the average oke I drink beer with is probably around 90kgs, most more, some less.... That leaves 122kg's.

The fairer sex, well..... They weigh 30kgs, right? But let's be more realistic and say 60kg's. That leaves 60kg's for the panniers, tent, undies, GHD and the beer. Could probably get away with it if your wife is a light packer but let's be honest most guys load the kitchen sink on so the bike, fully laden with two riders and fuel and k@k and hare could possibly be close to 500kg's.

If not then not far off.

So yesterday I renewed my licence for my Jimny. It weighs 1040kg's or about double as a laden 1200GS with two riders and k@k and hare...

Makes one think. Or me at least.... Good grief!
