KTM 950 ADVENTURE

Jakes (on this forum and writer for Weg) said it best this weekend:

A biker doesnt give a shit about brand. He cares about riding. A brand whore will punt his bike only and stick to it no matter what. IMO, thats..... very fking true.

Heres the thing:

Get the bike you want, and will meet your purposes best.

For me, there is no better bike at present for my needs. The 950 is the ultimate for me, even though I would like certain things extra on it.

I ride it hard (front exhaust is now cracked like the rear one). But theres a reason why. Ask the ODM's this weekend why and they will tell you

Service intervals are: 7500km/s

Doesnt matter what you hear. Take it from the factory and from those who ride it.

I have had the following hassles on my bike: snapped rear and now front exhaust.  Cost to fix? R150.

Apart from that, my chain lasted 32000 kays. I cleaned it maybe every 2000 kays. And I repeat, I ride hard - in every kind of condition possible.

I am on my first brake pad change as well  - now 33000 kays. Amazing really.

I bottomed the bike 3 times this weekend ont he rear spring and twice ont he front forks with a pillion, and man was it a hoot. I would not choose another bike. Ok, maybe one other: another 950.

I would like the extra travel of the 2003/2004 S, its what I need.

But most can do with the 04 regular and 990 travel. Great bikes all round.

Hey LiveInTheOutdoors

Thanks for that info, I guess when the time comes I will make the right decision (for me)  :)

ps: as a commuter (its my only vehicle at present), its awesome and I ride it every day of the year inclusive of the shitty Cape winter.

I fit in between cars lorries taxis whatever. And when it gets congested, I have taken to offroading to pass lines of cars. As long as you dont roost the cars, its all good.

However, I do believe the 1200 would be a smoother commuter, thats for sure.

Its a great bike, awesome all rounder. Much respect for it and the dealer network is the best in the country.

However if you lean towards dirt, then theres frankly not a better bike IMO, and the aural and fun sensational factor is highest in the Orange camp.

ATwin is another legend (awesome) as are the softer roadie biased bikes like the Wee and Vstrom and et al.

Cheers! (met a TW200 rider yesterday, 16000 kays on that fat rear knobbly tyre on tar, I think thats unreal... mine lasts me around 5000 at best  - I hope)

I prefer Nancy Reagan's quote: "Just say no!"
presumably she meant KTM
