640 Fairing - what alternatives ?
« on: February 18, 2013, 07:23:52 pm »
What alternatives are there to a 640 standard fairing ?

I would really like something like the 2nd photo.....

Some examples that I have found on the net....
The shape of the silver conical fairing aint so nice but it is a good attempt.

The bike that Alfie is posing with....is the shape of the tank (the top line of the tank where the 640 fairing would attach) more or less the same as the 640 ?
I presume the light mountings are completely different then ?

Quite like the tall screen version in the first pic...
but what I REALLY like are the crashbars in the second pic, thats what i need!!
Time to get building :) ( dont mean to hijack)
I bought a clear ( but slightly tinted ) screen for mine a couple of years ago, with a reverse ? scoop... if that is the correct terminology...
Unfortunately it required cutting the original quite radically to fit, & i havn't been able to bring myself to do that...

I will look for a picture...

Has anybody found out where to get the aftermarket fairing?

This fairing on the left would be perfect for me, I believe we can no longer get the clear screens on the older 2000 model adventures.

Anything V (forum name) has a mould for the one on the Right.

This was his reply to my question on how hight it is etc.
"It is basically a copy of a 640 fairing . It was copied way back of one of Alfie's dakar bikes.
They cost about R 1500 each if I remember correctly. Not that high . It is the same height as a 640. However I am sure if you are any good with fibreglass you could extend it.."

I have a sneaky suspicion that the fairing on the left is a copy of the older fairing with the clear screen.

I would love to make one that is just 30mm higher than the standard clear screen that i have. and this one on the left looks like the perfect fit especially at around R1500.
