Can anyone please confirm that the attached pic is well an 1948 Velocette ...

I found this between my dad's pic's.  He was 18-20 yrs old when this picture was taken....

That looks like a two stroke - I think that is an external tube to the transfer port on the cylinder.  Velocette stopped making two strokes in 1925.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velocette

Badge on tank looks small circular. - that may be a clue.  The tube across the bike in front of the engine - if it is original - will be a big clue.
