Most times, well in my case, every time, the budget does not reach the dreams.  After the economic crash some years ago, money just does'nt seem to go as far as at the time when Joost was still "spykering" prostitudes, especially if you wanne build a rally bike. An yes, I would love to order a real KTM rally...

but times are tuff an I am going to do it, even if it is on a shoe string budget (I will share the cost as we go along for those that are intterrested).

Thus a have decided to share my path to Cape Town at the end of October.

It started with the purcase of a KTM 450 XCW, 2007 model(priced R31000, good condition! :thumleft:).
The day of arrival:

I then fitted some flickers etc.:

Had the roadworthy done:

Now, the paper work to get the disk. This will be done by a 3rd party as my patiance will not tolerate the que.
So, I decided to search for some parts and obtianed a second hand roadbook holder on the forum for a 1000bucks :thumleft:. I started with the nav tower, cutting some 25x25mm aluminium:

Welded:

Then it was on to the back plate, using 40x3mm alu flat bar and welded it:

Now to see if the road book fits, all good  :thumleft:

Cut 19mm Alu round bar for cross mounting:

Cut some more steel and Alu pieces for the head mounting bracket to come:
