Low's Creek Weekend
« on: April 02, 2013, 12:35:36 pm »
Die is Michelle se eerste RR... Ek Copy & Paste net....  :deal:

 :spitcoffee:

On the chilly morning of 21 March, four bikes came together. On the corner of the N4 and Hans Strydom were Willem and his pillion Maria was already waiting, Deon taking his excitement soothing smoke, Alwyn and his pillion Michelle hastily loading the luggage over in the land Cruiser to see Hendrik bouncing on his bike towards them.

As the formalities came to an end, the Land Cruiser set of and the bikers gear up for the journey of the weekend they will never forget.

As we travel and leaving the city behind us we hit the first of many beautiful gravel roads with the cosmos rivers lining the road for us. While the guys soften the tires the girls plays in the cosmos, taking pictures and putting flowers on the bikes.

As we ease on to the tar road the swooping bend starting making Alwyn and Hendrik’s smile overlap in their helmets. The view took Deon’s breath away and a turn caught him by surprise luckily nothing serious. Willem and Alwyn showed us a breathtaking waterfall, the sun’s beams shines through parts of the tree leaves and a thin water stream flowing through the bossy area.

As we gear up to leave the young guys want some fun and decide to cross the water stream, looks like nothing but with slippery rocks and mud outlets it was quite a challenge and caused some real fun for Alwyn and Hendrik.

In the sister town of Clarens, Kaapsche Hoop we stopped for a well deserved lunch. As we turn into the little town, the mist start rolling in making it looks like a ghost town. We sat at the Koeke Pan restaurant enjoying a savory pancake, anything from trout and cottage cheese, spinach and feta to mushroom and cheese. Like children Michelle had to take her chance at the swing while Alwyn pushes her. The blanket of mist causes a real challenge on the swooping bend that followed, max speed 30km. But we made it through. To find the plantations and sun on the other side. Our end destination Low’s Creek…

On the morning of our first day in Low’s Creek we started off with a coffee and a Rusk, Gearing Up to start the day at 8:30. We set of riding through pine plantations around “3 Sisters”, at the bottom the sun does not properly reach the ground leaving mud and mist hanging in the cold air. As we climb the mountain the sun begins to surface, the heat starts to warm us. Trees bending over the road covering like a roof, making a beautiful tunnel, with the lights of a GS, there’s nothing more beautiful than that. Suddenly Willem and Maria stop, to find they have a little friend traveling with, a “fleur spinnekop” they just had to stop a show everybody.

Stopping for fuel at Malalane, the guys spot the Toyota Dakar vehicle and photos needed to be taken. Lunch was at The Deck Restaurant bordering on the Kruger National Park were we sew two crocodiles and hippos. The lunch was fantastic. We had beers and a good chat before setting back over Kaalrug.

At a stage there is a rocking incline, were the guys went off before lunch and back up after lunch, Willem and Alwyn did it with pillions, well done! As we stop for a breather just after the rocks to play in the sand, ate energy’s bar and saw a frog.

We got back to the house after a very exciting and hard ride, beautiful scenery. As Hendrik and Alwyn decide to take on one more ride with Louw on their farm the famous “bos paaitjies”. The rest relaxed or slept for a while. That night we had a “wors braai” with all the farmers in the town. What a event, the wors gets braaied and cut into pieces passed around for everyone to have a bite, we had pepper-, new mix-, pork-, garlic wors, etc.

Our second day at Lows Creek started with a king’s breakfast and coffee. Geared up and set off. This time Barries and Louw came with on their motorbikes. Mare-lu, little Willem-Daniel and Greta in the Toyota Hilux bakkie just behind us. We took the “boulders” road, traveling all along the Komati Mountains.

We stopped on a bridge, boulders on the left and water stream on the right. Our photo opportunity took place. Alwyn and Hendrik road their bikes onto the bolder and everyone including Barriers, Greta and Louw took a place on the rock.

As bikers reading this we can all agree that a Windhoek or a KWV is the best for a breather. That was in our support vehicle.
