Quote for Valve re-adjustments? DR650
« on: April 13, 2013, 11:54:43 am »
Can anyone tell tell me where is a good place to take my DR650 for valve adjustments? They are ticking super loud.
How much does this normally cost?

It's just tappets and easy to do - I did mine myself takes about 30 mins.

Wou ook se dit is n relatief eenvoudige werkie. Koop liewer n sak bier en gaan besoek n dog naby jou en kyk wat hy doen.
Soek solank die valve specs sodat as iemand lus is vir bier jy die specs het.  :ricky:

As they said - learn to service the DR yourself. It is dead simple. Not sure where you can get them locally but the correct (bent) feeler gauges and valve tool make it even simpler. I got mine from Procycle. I am assuming that your bike is relatively new as once the valves have bedded they very seldom need adjustment. I see you are in Cape Town - take it to lecap if you are in a hurry.

Dis alles en die tappets moet bietjie raas, of so is ek wysgemaak.
Ek het my DR s'n op 30 000 km vir die eerste keer nagegaan en alhoewel dit bietjie geraas het was dit nie nodig om hulle te stel nie.
Dis regtig maklik as iemand jou net eers gewys het hoe.

If you want some one to do it for you LeCap would be my first choice.  It is very simple to do so Suzuki South could also do it.  If you want to do it yourself you can get the tool from Suzuki South.  If you find the bent gauges that's great else just get a standard set of feeler gauges and bend the ones you need to fit.  There are a lot of instructions on the web on how to do it.  There are also detailed instruction in the workshop manual.  If you don't have a copy PM me and I'll email it to you (its 83 Meg in size)

Setting "valves" is fairly simple but also a job that needs a fine hand and feel.
Not everybody gets the  "tension/drag" of the feelerblade right when adjusting. Not loose and not tight. Just a nice positive resistance when sliding the gauge between the two points. Next time try and feel for this resistance and remember it.
