While we have some time, I'll fill in some gaps, which will also explain why I ride mostly where I ride.

I started my working life in Justice Dept as a clerk. One of the jobs that needed doing was to pay out pensions in the Easten Cape Platteland every  month. Those years the platteland was a busy place, and loving travel, I organised that I got the task for a few years. I managed to make it last a week, hoink to wherever I had to be on a Monday, sort the admin, do the payouts on a Tuesday and finish early on the Thursday and then give myself two days to ride home. Sometimes I could organise to do it on my bike, and that is when I would take the Long Way Home.

Thus I got to explore most of the EC, West of Stutterheim/Cathcart, in my early years.

But more notable to my more recent travels, in the last few years, was that I spent my 2 years National Service in 1983 to 1985 in Oudtshoorn. This is where my later want for the mountains and off-road travel started... and of course my great love for the Karoo comes from.

At first I explored on the 400 Twin and later my Z650, but they soon became inadequate and I managed to get an XR200. Life in the mountains had started and I road it flat. Whenever we got Pass, and the 'GEIT' was not to strong, I would go cruise. My buddies thought me quite weird, that I would rather do that, than go for a weekend piss-up.

I know the EC pretty well, but I could never get enough of the Karoo, and that is why, as you will later see, it is where most of our rides of late have been.

I got the AT in November 2007 and started off real easy. Cruised the roads around PE and some easy gravel. Lyn decided she would stick to the tar rides and I would do the gravel tours on my own. Quite funny from her really, when you see where we would tour in later years.

Of WD's I of course knew nothing at that stage, having been out the loop for many years, until Sept 2008, that I met Crab on a Ullyseus Spring run, and my world would change forever.

That day I did my first real gravel ride through the Onder Kouga to Assegaaibosch and, unbeknown, met some other Dogs, still having no idea what it was about. Later Crab would tell me more at one of my Serenity spots at the top of Clarkson Tower. It would take another some 15 months before I became active on the forum and the rest... nou-ja, is history.

Much ugly has been said and discussed on the Forum of late, but it had a profound influence on our lives the past three years, most notably, the many friends we have made and how it widened the horizon for me. We'll get back to that.  :3some:

Anycase, it was a great days riding and I was ready to start touring. Shortly hereafter Lyn and I would do our first real trip.

Something to think about...
When you complain, you make yourself a victim. Leave the situation, change the situation, or accept your it. All else is madness.

 This has been a much anticipated RR, from my side the pleasure of at last writing it, and having had lots of pressure from WD Buddies, who know I had not done a report, bar one, of Lyn's and my travels.,

I trust I can do justice to the enjoyment of the rides and fulfill the expectations you guys are putting on me.
