2012 690 Enduro Malfuntion
« on: May 03, 2013, 02:52:39 pm »
Hi Guys,

I have a 2012 690, and recently did a very wet enduro race in the Monduli Mountains in Tanzania. My speedo started malfunctioning shortly after. No fuses are burnt out, and I have unplugged and re-plugged everything that has remotely anything to do with the speedo. The only the thing that comes on is the back-light, the ref-counter doesn't register, and neither does anythin else, no display, nothing.

This happen to anyone else? Any advice, besides starting a claim with our friends at KTM?

Kind Regards

Andrew

I've seen something similar before.  It was the earth.  If I remember OK, it has a common earth that terminates in the right side of the frame?

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the info, will have a look over the weekend.

@Edgy, yeah, a really wet technical enduro, and the bike was doing great, did some lap times that competed well with the 450's. I put a Mitas CO2 on the back, and it grips like a beast and chucks the mud off really easily. What screwed me up though was that I didn't have the Mounting brackets for just the plastics so left the extra tanks on, which made it alittle heavier, and evertime I came off it broke some of the side plastics off. Need to get the mounting brackets from KTM. I will definitely do another enduro on it. Hill Climbs are a breeze no matter how slippery!

Hi
My speedo did exactly the same thing. Did you manage to sort out the problem?

If you suspect the speedo got wet / damp then
try leaving the speedo unit in a bag of rice for a few days - heard that draws all the moisture out .

KTM said they are replacing under warrantee. It bugs me that that they did not even care to look at fuses etc when I took the bike in. So now I have to wait...

Yeah, leave it in rice overnight - the rice attracts Asians who will fix it for you. They fix cell phones too. :lol8: :peepwall:

All electronics work with smoke. Very difficult to get the smoke back in the black box
