For the past year we've been playing with different idea's and towns to purchase a property that would not only allow us to move out of Cape Town, but it had to have sufficient land and space that we could create Camping and Self-catering facilities that would be 100% biker friendly.
The property would also allow us to live seperately from the proposed camp site.
The area also needed to be positioned in such a way that staying there for a long weekend, would allow you to have at least 3 day-trips to explore while your campsite is secure.

Our ideal property has been found in the Overberg - (the exact town and location to be announced once papers finalised)  :thumleft:

Pictures shown below is approximately 3/4 ha and consists of well established lawns that were used as a horse paddock. The property is surrounded by Beefwoods and is situated in such a way that the land is virtually wind-free and sheltered. Being North-facing is gets full sun even in winter.......

The site would be able to handle at least 40 - 50 tents.

We will be building ablution blocks with hot & cold water showers for ladies & gents.
A swimming pool & Lapa also planned as well as sheltered area's to supply ample shade for those hot days.
One of the barns on the property will be converted to a workshop that you could do maintenance and we'd also host a small "biker's shop" so that you can get nescessities that you might have missed or forgotten...........

SO .............  can we please get input from fellow Dawgs as to WHAT types of facilities might be needed additionally ........?  What would make this an attractive place to spend a weekend with your mates (only about 200km from Cape Town)  8)

The Campsite will obviously cater for others as well.... but our loyalties ensure that we create a biker friendly environment first.....  :thumleft:

I have a need for a wendy type hut with bunk beds, bring your own mattress and sleeping bag
Like camping, but without the tent
Maybe a small wood burning stove double up as donkey for hot water
Basic but clean ablution, toilet, basin, shower

The ablution block will probably consist of at least 4 x toilets each side as well as 3 or 4 showers  - Solar geysers will supply the hot water backed up by a gas boiler.
We will have 3 or 4 self catering cottages with en-suites for those that want to have some luxury.........  a few timber cabins for the lazy ones - we will probably even have a few tents for rent for those that don't want to bother with their own.......   :thumleft:

In the last pic is an old SARH Goods/cattle car - that will be restored and will be filled with braaihout.
A local dairy will supply us with fresh "real" milk and the local butcher will make up special braaipacks for us to suit all. Ys no problem........ and berr also not......   :thumleft:

We're off to the UK the end of this month - one of the things to do is sell our flat in London......... (funds to be used on this project) and we hope to move back to SA the end of August.

If all goes well........... we hope to have the infrastructure setup by mid next year.......   :ricky:

cooking on the ground or in a tent can become tedious. I would like a shelters place to prepare a meal and wash dishes.  A communal area would be fine.  Simple easy to clean work surfaces for preparing the meal and and to put camping stoves on.  Basins for washing vegetables and dishes.

That looks great! Hope all goes well. For us from far using it as a stop over and being a girl and all the one thing I really appreciate is a laundry, washing machine and tumble dryer. Nothing worse than being on a long wet trip and no "rest" day to get clean dry clothes ..... But I guess if its just aimed at the weekend stop over spot then a leaker big lapa area to kier in the wet unplanned wether is a plus  :)

On the section with the embankment - it's especially sheltered - here we though of putting an undercover area where you could sit and eat, socialise and braai.......... there will be plugpoints in this area where we could probably place a fridge and freezer for drinks etc.
Multiple plugpoints will also be placed all over the property for the convenience of the campers.

Basins with hot water & prep area's also planned ...  :thumleft:

Something I found really nice in the Kruger Park was the boiling water points at each cooking/washing-up block. Instant boiling water for coffee, tea, etc. Great for that quick cuppa before a game drive at dawn.

What about a small concrete slab at each camp site to prevent bike stands sinking into the grass / earth and falling over?
Young enough to know I can, old enough to know I shouldn't, stupid enough to do it anyway.

Goose , I would suggest you build two or three so-called "private" spots somewhere on the edge of the premises to accommodate a
caravan or 4x4 with a rooftop tent.
Build fencing by cutting "latte" from alien plants/trees in the area
Like the enclosed camping spots at Fiddlers Creek at Vioolsdrift where the National Bash was held
in 2011.
It would just give you that option to attract people from other sectors of the market.

It is a noble idea, but realistically I doubt if it would be a viable venture just concentrating on bikers.

What is good about the address is that it is very central to use as a base for daytrips in all directions to explore
the southern Overberg area. :thumleft:

I like the idea of just a plain hut with a bunk bed. Normal 2x3 will do, with a little table inside for unpacking. Somee cheap sponge matress on it will do. And a light and plug point.

That'll be ideal, saves a lot of packing.

Affordability is also big on the list  :thumleft:
