Keen on a V Strom.......
« on: May 13, 2013, 08:26:01 pm »
Hi fellow dogs.  I've only been on the forum for over 3 months and busy looking at my first purchase.  Obviously I don't want to go too much overboard.  I have the opportunity to buy a 2010 V Strom 650, low mileage and in great condition and beautiful! My concern is that I'm a big bloke, 130kg, and not sure if this is the right option.  I've read a lot of reviews on the 2010 and it was all positive.  Any comments or advise?  Thx!

Hey Boas.
I have a very good friend is quite a few kilos heavier than you, he must have done a 100 000 kays on his Strom, and some that was with a pillion.
I also did plenty kays on mine and never had any real issues with it at all.
It's a very good very under rated bike, admittedly you can't do the Paris Dakar on it, but that is not what it was designed for and why would you want to anyway?
They are cheap to run and bullet proof, you won't regret buying one :thumleft:

Agree, as a touring bike, its unparallelled. I haven't driven a 650, but the frame is the same as the 1000 and its very comfortable on the long road, and 140+ is not a problem if you are in a hurry. It's not  a dirtbike though as Pom says.

thx so much.  This just confirmed my next move!  I don't want to do much off road riding, more weekend rides and the odd commuting and gravel/dirt if needs be....thus making this the obvious choice.

You can read the story here for yourself to see how the V-strom 650 speaks for itself. :ricky: http://mzee-jaki.blogspot.com/2009/10/everyone-has-dream.html

To open up this topic again.

What is the main differences between the 1000cc and the 650cc. Why would someone rather buy a buy a 650 instead of a 1000 if the prices does not differ so much.

Maybe I am missing something???

You should always buy bigger rather than smaller! Size matters!

Smaller is lighter and better on fuel, I think the smaller V has a downgraded suspension though. Otherwise not much in it.
