Wooly, when you do a ride and you get lost by taking the wrong path, then you don't complete the intended route and you fall off your bike as many times as I did, the thought of doing the ride report is not an appealing one.

I will put something together, but not many pics were taken by me as I was too exhausted from picking my XR up on the side of the mountain and trying to kick it to life again.

(Wooly Bugger) [removed by request, but it was a good story, wasn't it Jon?] What we really needed to do to finish this ride as planned was to get to the gate in the fence (see attached picture of same gate) to get down the pass but the body of the kirk wasn't willing. Ian (the one with the electric start and little enzy wenzy motor)

It wasn't just the kick start, here's the profile of the ridge to the gate. You can see I crabbed a bit on the way up but on my return I came straight down. I thought they were leaving me behind at that stage! Ian

Ok I guess I better post the few pics that I took and fill in some of the story.

I did a ride up to the top of the berg a few months ago, reported here:

where we went up and then back down the same route.

Since then I have been a bit obsessed with finding another different route down from Lesotho into SA, not using any of the recognised passes.

So after hours and hours of examining Google Earth I came up with what looked like a feasible route:

I asked Trevorwb and Ian the Tooth if they were keen to join me, both were, so we planned the trip for the weekend of Sunday 19 May.

We trailered the bikes to just outside Swartberg, Ian on his WR250, Trevor on his 950SE and me on my XR.

The weather was perfect and we made good time getting up the pass to the Lesotho border.
