First ride on my R today and I did exactly the same thing.
Not as bad as yours but enough to create a front end puncture >:(
Every few km had to stop and pump the tyre.
Got to the Drakensberg, found a hammer and piece of hard plastic. Managed to bang the ding out enough for the tyre to reseal.
The rock I hit wasn't that big. I think these rims are a bit soft

It wasnt a ROCK. It was on a nice gravel highway. Some of the rocks are in the road, half underground, other half sticking out. Nice and round of the years of riding over them. So I come over the rise, see the stone/rock, try to miss it but dont do much effort cause I know it wont do anything to the bike. I was on 160kph. So the front clips the stone/rock/boulder wtf ever  >:D and I hardly feel any impact on steering.

Next moment, still at 160, the front wheel goes INSTANTLY FLAT!! FFS!!!! First time ever this happened to me.
Bike pulls left, you turn right, fuckall happens!! It runs where it wants to!! So I locked up rear brake, and try my best to keep the front end on the gravel as far as I can. Eventually stopped in the veld next to the  fence  >:D

So there I am, 170-180km from home, between nowhere and fuckall, all alone, with a flat tyre. So I took a rock, and started bashing the rim. The rock split in two. After rock nr 6 being split up in two, I tried to pump tyre with snot strips in there. Nothing, still wont keep air.

Is it 160 from Hotel to the Tar, or 160 from Hotel into PE?

My rock was also one of those round ones half buried in the soil. Was doing approx 120km/h at the time. Was on the road between Tugela Ferry and Weenen. I felt the hit but was nothing, not even a minor deflection on the bars. Will have to be more careful in the future.

As an aside I need to move the bars forward and add a 20mm spacer. Feel very cramped while standing on the bike.

Nicely said, same here today!!

So now I want to know, if you cant even ride over them, what then? Surely the rims must be able to handle that?

Hoor wat jy se.  Tubeless bly maar konstante issue as die rim buig

En tube bly n issue as jy konstant dorings in jou wiele kry.
