He's gonna have to ride hard, because the Yamaha's are always under powered, compared to the rest.. even the R1!

It's the Dakar, not a motoGP, skill, consistency and reliability win it, not out & out pace.

I still like Depressed.  Regardless of bike.  It would have been more interesting seeing him for Honda, maar ag nou ja.

I reckon most race bikes are as good as the info given back to the engineers by the rider. I think Yamaha will come with a whole new package come January.

What annoys me is that they use these hybrid SX motors for Dakar.. unobtainium.
KTM uses a DOHC 450SX head (discontinued in the current SX lineup), mated to a wide ration 5 speed box, which is uncharacteristic for KTM.

Look like Yamaha is going a similar route with their YZ450 rally bike.

Honda is the only brand that actually uses a shockingly close to stock CRF450X motor!
Honda, jou lekke ding!

It might sound like fan-boy talk, but by simply fitting a 2002 CRF cam to the 450X in my garage, adding an IMS tank and tuning the suspension, I have a 95% JCR Baja bike!

Are you saying that you don't need skill, consistancy and relaibility to win MotoGP??, I have to disagree, you need that to win any race or championship.

Flip but that was a nice video  :thumleft:

How did you deduce that off my post? Of course you need all those, and probably a few more.
All I'm saying is you don't need out and out pace, that's been proven by Robbie Gordon numerous times. It's very seldom you can open a dirt bike flat taps while trying to navigate through a desert. Yes, there are sections where you can but I don't think that'll be the deciding factor.
