We are a group of 6 couples, that try to get out once a quarter.
The group has 3 BMW 1200RT's, and 3 GS1200's

Most of these trips are tar only, cause of the road orientated bikes as well as the girls go along. So we try to ride nicely with them.

I planned this trip over the LONGWEEKEND of 21 March 2013.
Usually we go on 3day trips, Friday to Sunday, but for this one I wanted to cover some of the battlefield sites as well.
so a 4 day trip was the ideal opportunity. this meant 2days in the saddle before the rest day.

We started on Thursday 21 March sleep over in Dundee @ Arusha Lodge.
Route from Randfontein, Vereniging, Villiers - (Breakfast @ Wimpy), then onto Memel - also a stop for refreshments, then via Newcastle to Dundee.
The scenery on this section is not to rave about, but at least we are in the open, no traffic, and nice tar roads that you can practice some skills in cornering - not to fast though, as girls keep on bumping you in the ribs.

Arusha Lodge has a swimming pool to the enjoyment of all of us. It was still summer and cooling of with something to hold on, like a beer or two, was just the answer to a day in the saddle.
Now this is where you relax completely and forget about the troubles at work.

Wife waves goodbye to the dogs.

Breakfast stop Villiers

The next morning it was closed under mist.
this was the beautiful section, regarding scenery, as my route went down on the R68 to Melmoth.
After breakfast it was still overcast, but we started anyway as we had to cover almost 400km to get to Wakkerstroom.
In a sense it is nice to ride in the mist, although dangerous,as the route winds down the mountains, but the ghostly atmosphere is kind of exploring the unknown.
Pitty that we could not see the landscape.
this section took us quite a while as slow pace was the order of the day.
In Melmoth we refuelled and went back to Vryheid on the R34 where lunch was enjoyed at Wimpy.
After this everyone was in a hurry to get to Wakkerstroom via Volksrust.

Once out of the mountain the mist cleared and some nice weather for the rest of the day.
