We finally got to Oom Giel's Farm as the sun had already gone to find both Joyride & RidAlot waiting there for us. Fred & Raptor F22 had gone on ahead, behind Oom Giel in his bakkie to show them where the camp site was. @ this point after the various experiences we all just had over the past few hours...... both Dave & RideAlot decided that there was just no way that they were in any mood to tackle any more sand for the evening.... To be truly honest I too was quite happy to just pitch a tent for the night right there on the front stoep of Oom Giel's farm house.....but the reality was that we had come such a long way.....endured far too much to just throw in the towel. After all.....the main reason we included this section of the route...was to enjoy the experience of sleeping out on the PAN.

Joyide made a very valid point that with the other 2 guys on their bikes already out on the Pan with Oom Giel in his bakkie....it just did not make sence for the 4 of us to just stay here on the farm. Joyride was quite happy to press on forward to attempt in following the tracks of the other 2 guys & hopefully get Oom Giel along the way as he made his way back to the farm. It was decided among us, that both RideAlot & Dave were going to hang 10 @ the farm till when Oom Giel gets back & ask if he could perhaps just brings them through to the camp site later on, as Dave was still hurting just a bit from his recent "Purchase" a few km's back. Joyride & myself would then rather go on together as we weren't too happy with the idea if just one person going on ahead into the darkness of Verneukpan.

Well.....to be really honest once again.....I truly think that both Dave & RideAlot's decision to stay behind turned out to be a rather good one......cause quite a few km's down the road both Joyride & I were all of a sudden introduced to yet another section of EVIL sand. >:D >:D >:D  We both held a brave face & continued to press on forward @ a rather slow & smooth pace....when all of a sudden Joyride's 950 started to do it's little "Snake Dance" right over/accross the tracks of the other 2 guys that had earlier passed here. I made the mistake of stopping briefly behind Joyride....just to give him a bit more space. Joyride very nicely managed to keep things very well under control, but I am sure he will agree that there were some pretty close moment there where he almost got it wrong >:D >:D >:D :lol8: :lol8: :lol8:

The problem for me is that when I stopped briefly to give Joyride a bit more space (...as we were riding reasonably close, so that I could light up the road ahead - due to my bike looking like a Christmas Tree)....as I put my right foot out.....Eish... the sand sortof just gave way & while I was still stationary my bike just gently carried on leaning over. There was just no way I was even going to try fight it & just let the bike lay over there gently in the nice soft sand :lol8: :lol8: :lol8: :lol8: All I could do was just burst out laughing & in a strange kinda way......enjoy the moment & make the best out of the situation.

This time round, the camera was rolling & even though the light was really CRAP by now.....I still manned to capture it. I don't quite think that it would qualify as a "real purchase of some Real Estate"......but merely just a bit of "Window Shopping @ a Show House"

I immediately flashed my lights from behind to signal for Joyride to hang 10.....but as he later said....he was way too busy concentrating on his "Task @ Hand" with working through this section of sand.....that he seriously only become aware once he'd stopped a long way on @ the end of the sand.....that there was No Light from behind & No Shaun in sight. :imaposer: :imaposer: :imaposer:

I got my bike up, but was just too MOEG @ that point, that I started to walk down the road toward the faint light form Joyride's headlamp, as he too was making his way down to me. We met half way, had a good discussion about this FRIKKING Awesome Adventure :spitcoffee: :lol8: :lol8: :lol8: & then were @ that point contemplating just calling it a night & pitch our tents right there!! Damn.....as jy moeg is....dan is jy moeg!!! ;D

After just chilling for a while & chatting there under the full moon & starlit sky, we both just could NOT agree any more, that in spite of these little "set-backs".... we all truly are Blessed & Privileged to be doing this trip & enjoy everything that we have experienced along the way. Not too much later on, we saw in the distance the headlights of Oom Giel's Bakkie slowly making it's way towards us. When he got there to us, we asked Oom Giel if he would PLEASE pick up both RideAlot & Dave when he gets back to the farm & bring them back out to the camp site. He immediately said to us that he would gladly give his Bakkie to the other 2 to come out on their own. We then decided that Joyride & I would strip all our luggage off our bikes, leave it there in the road as the other 2 guys would pick it up as they came past in the bakkie.

Geezzzzzzz......what a difference. Joyride & I climbed back on our bikes, & then were able to float again ontop of the sand & keep moving forward, which became soooooo much easier then, towards the camp site. On the way there, we met up with Fred who had ridden a bick to meet us & showed us the way for the last section, where we all finally got to do, what we'd worked Frikking hard for the entire day.....& that was to sleep on Verneukpan. :thumleft:

It must been close to 21h00 when we all finally arrived safe & sound @ the camp site. Fred & Raptor F22 had already started the fire & got the old faithful "Hot Water Donkey" going in for us to enjoy a really welcome shower.

We stayed up till....who knows what time.....& in all fairness.....we didn't really care about the time.....because we were by then having such a Gr8 time chatting about the days ride & all we had faced over the last few hours. The fire was going, the company was Gr8 & we all agreed that everything was just perfect!!!!! :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:

I don't have any photos that I took of that evening, as we were all just to busy enjoying the Perfect evening that we were Blessed to have. Here are a few photos I took the next morning. Boy oh boy..... what a truly Awesome place :drif: :drif: :drif: :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft: ;)

.....but I can assure you & I'm quite sure that many would agree 100%......that anybody given the correct ingredients under this situation.....(loooooong day in the saddle, diminishing daylight, general fatigue form the day's riding, slight loss of concentration, some more FRIKKING Evil Sand >:D >:D ;D, etc, etc....) & you're sure to end up with hell of a lot of Work on your plate.

Agree 100%, the day we got to the Pan was also a long day in the saddle and I had my hands full through that piece of sand.  The next morning I was as fresh as a daisy and couldn't believe what the fuss was the previous day.
BTW, oom Giel told us about your guys ordeal.   ;D

Verneukpan is an awesome place.   :thumleft:

Some shots of what the camp site & ablution block looks like. Just love the "Crust" of the surface there on the Pan.

After we had some "welcome coffee" & got everything packed up, we decided to let all of our luggage go back with the Bakkie...so that if we encountered any more sand on our way back to the farm.....we did not then have to wrestle with the extra weight.

Oom Giel had told us the night before, that instead of us returning back the same way we came in through all the sand.....that the 4 of us on bikes, could get back via the another route, while both Dave & RideAlot returned with the bakkie via the sand route.........but that we had to just keep out eyes open for all the various "Holes caused by VlakVarke that dig their burrows right next to the road".....& then also to be on the lookout for various "WASHOUT Sections" in the road, caused by the recent flooding & rains over the past couple of weeks. Little did I know @ that point what was in store for me..... a little over 11km down the road. :-\ :'( :'(

A few shots of us making our way back out the Pan.

Here are some of the "Holes caused by VlakVarke" that Oom Giel told us about. Also keep in mind that the bottom line alone the fence you ride next to.... has some nice lively Electricity flowing through it.....so you do indeed tend to stay away from it while riding. ;)

The 4 of us arriving @ the first of a few gates we had to go through. Sure a lot of you guys do the same....the way we normally ride, is that the first person @ the gate, will get off & open the gate for everyone to pass through. Then close the gate behind you & fall into the back. So we keep rotating.

We arrived @ this one section to find Oom Giel & his guys busy doing some repair works along the fence & to the road. Also told us to be on the lookout for the various "KlakVark Holes" & "WASHOUT" sections in the road up ahead.

We had all really been enjoying the ride so far & just taking it nice & easy....all the while enjoying this truly Awesome place :thumleft: :thumleft:

I found myself constantly riding in 2nd & 3rd the whole time while riding along @ between 35-50 km/h. Just having to gas it a bit to get over some of the little "cracks & washouts" across the road, as well as to just keep momentum to get through small patches of loose "silt, sand & parallel rutted sections" running in the road.

Still had no Idea what awaited me in a few more km's up ahead. :-\ :'( :patch:
