As we crossed this bridge leading out of Brandvlei......the fun really started & it soon became apparent that the recent rains that thrashed through this area a few weeks/months back...... sure caused quite a lot of damage to a lot of section of the various roads we travelled on, on our last stretch towards Verneukpan.

Believe me when I say......we all had some "Fun" controlling/navigating our fully loaded bikes through these sandy sections......eish :ricky: :lol8: :lol8: :lol8: :lol8:

There were some really nice sections where you were able to "stretch your legs" a bit ::) ::) & enjoy the nice long sections of relatively good gravel. :ricky: with the odd section "here & there" that pops out in front of you....just to keep you "Op&Wakker" :lol8: :lol8:

I really loved this section of the route. This section of "really nice" Gravel.....just seemed to go on forever & you almost hoped it did. Very nice indeed.

This remark is probably going to make me very unpopular again.
Look at the weight distribution between the KTM and BMW bikes. I mean weight after the rear axle.
Weight after the rear axle just acts like a big pendulum the further behind the rear axle the worse it gets and sand will amplify that.
The Bm's are just loaded scary for me.
Just an observation and my opinion.

I managed to get out far enough ahead of RideAlot, in order to find a nice spot to get a few shots of him as he comes past.

Subie....you do make a valid point w.r.t. the weight distribution of the bikes. I can honestly say that IMHO.....the feel/feedback of/from my bike is always pretty good as you see it packed. I only pack really light stuff (s/bag, super light mattress, etc...) in my T/Box. All the other weight is pretty on my pillion seat area.

I do agree with you 100% that IMHO....that the GS's do indeed have a hell of a lot more "overhang" behind the rear wheel ;)

Ok . Sorry to interrupt your very nice RR Bring it on. Just looks scary like that for me in the thick sandy patches.  :thumleft:

OK.....with the other guys way out in front of us.....it was time to start making haste......as time was marching on & we still had quite a lot of ground to cover.

After quite a few km's....we got to the intersection we the others were waiting.

Time to move on again. From here on all the way to Oom Giel's Farm, the road ahead had quite a lot of sections where streams (from the recent heavy rains) had washed over the road, once again forcing us to approach certain sections with a little caution.

A combination of the sun shining right into his eyes & RideAlot misjudging the one "dip".... caused his left side pannier fell off & opened up from the knock as well as his T/Box that also flung wide open.

I know it was not very funny for RideAlot ......but Geeeezzzzzzzzz.....just imaging the picture of me coming through the "washout dip" that RideAlot had just gone through & here in front of me.....nicely spread out alllllll over the entire road, is the contents of his L Pannier & T/Box (tin food, 2 minute noodles, clothes, towel, his "famous" tin coffee mug,....etc, etc, etc....) :lol8: :lol8: :lol8: :lol8: :lol8: :lol8:

Unfortunately his rear luggage rack that the T/Box was fitted to, had cracked & the 2 of us had to first make a plan to get it strapped back in place, picked up all his belongings that we recovered from their "temporary resting place allllllll over the road) & then continued on our way to get the other guys.

I am sure by now that a lot of the roads will have been repaired. See the attached GPS file for part of our Trip Log/Route that we road.....also indicating the section where my poor faithful GS got written off. :'(
