We continued a little further down the that road & were al of a sudden...... faced with a FRIKKING EVIL section of sand almost 150m long :o :o My battery on my Helmet Cam had died @ this point, so unfortunately I didn't get it on camera. However Dave & Raptor F22 were there waiting for us on the other side along with Joyride & did get a bit of footage of RideAlot & myself doing our best to make it through.

I will need to just go though their footage & grab a few s/shots out of it & will carry on posting it tomorrow....... ;) :thumleft:

Lekker slap almal. ;D

Amazing photos. Real pity that your mishap cut your trip short.

Murphy and I are leaving 28 June from PE to Nam, Zam, Mal, Moz and Zim back to PE. Hope we can also take photos that will reflect our experience.

Ok then.....to carry on from the other night.....

Here are few of the Screenshots that I took from the video footage that Dave/ Raptor F22 took of "RideAlot" & myself trying our best to "Stand Up....Look Up..... & Frikking OPEN Up" as we belted our way through this section of some really Evil Sand, especially the first part (about 150m long with the added bonus of the late afternoon sun shining directly into our eyes) :ricky: :ricky: :ricky:

Barnie doing his bit to impress our 3 judges waiting on the other side of the "Sand Box", while I waited @ the back to build up courage .......as my turn was next ;D :ricky:....

Now for my turn. Eish....this was gonna be fun.....

I am by no means a Sand Pro in any way & to be really honest I was not really looking forward to tackling this section of sand.....but it had to be done & I gave it my best. There were some Frikking close moments where I came ooohhhhh sooooo close to getting it wrong......but thank goodness I made it through. :ricky: Not with flying colours.....but I made it. ;D

By this time, it was pretty late & Fred had gone up ahead to try find Oom Giel's Farm so he could show us how to get onto the pan, where we would spend the night under the stars & full moon.

The sandy sections, as we very soon discovered......while continuing down the road to the farm..... were by NO Means over. Joyride, Raptor F22 & RideAlot were out front, with Dave & I following right closely right behind as I still thought my camera was running & wanted to get some footage of the sand we encounted.

I will never forget the moment when Dave hit one of the sections of pretty soft sandy sections of the road & the entire bike started to violently "snake" like a really P!$$ed off cobra :o :o Dave was quite a distance before me....but it seemed as if it was all unfolding right in front of my face.

Dave has many many years of riding experience, even on enduro riding...... He really knows how to ride a bike.....but I can assure you & I'm quite sure that many would agree 100%......that anybody given the correct ingredients under this situation.....(loooooong day in the saddle, diminishing daylight, general fatigue form the day's riding, slight loss of concentration, some more FRIKKING Evil Sand >:D >:D ;D, etc, etc....) & you're sure to end up with hell of a lot of Work on your plate.

@ this point I want to make a Gr8 BIG HUGE Mental NOTE to myself...... "Shaun.....MAKE SURE YOU ALWAYS HAVE ENOUGH BATTERY POWER IN YOUR HELMET CAMERA....& MAKE SURE THE FRIKKING THING IS RECORDING!!!!! ;)   .....Because what I saw would've made some truly AWESOME video Footage.

Dave was doing very well to keep things under control & seriously looked like he was just going to pull this off.......when all of a sudden his front wheel got a little "unwillingly close" to the side embankment of the road. His front wheel dug in...causing the bike to sort of do a "sidewise" endo. :o :o At this point Dave got  thrown "over/sideways" his bike & I swear I saw that "Bright Orange" headlight "3Times" as his bike spun/almost flipping completely over......al the while that Dave was safely ejected to the one side.

Everything  happened so fast....but yeat soooo slow & I seriously thought @ that moment from what I had just witnessed .....that we might just be having to make a call for an EVAC :o :o :o It truly was not very nice to see a friend go down like that.

I made my way towards Dave, but within seconds, by the time I got alongside Dave,.....the man was up...dusting himself off & already attempting to pick up his bike. Dave my buddy,......you gave me one hell of a scare......but I am so glad you were OK & came out OK. He had some Rib Damage form a few years back & was just a bit winded....but THANKFULLY OK :thumleft:

The 2 of us got his bike back up, clipped his one side pannier back on that had simply clipped off, got Dave back on his bike & continued the last section on towards the farm.

Here are just a few photos I took with my normal camera (light was very bad by this time.....so please excuse the bad quality of the photos) of Dave's "Freshly Puchased piece of Real Estate" ;D :pot: ;D , after I discovered that my Frikking Helmet Camera had not capture any of the last (almost an hour) section we had all just covered. :dousing: >:( Once again Dave.....glad you got through this one & IMHO.....you handled that entire situation like a true PRO :thumleft: :thumleft: :notworthy: :notworthy: ;)

A combination of the sun shining right into his eyes & RideAlot misjudging the one "dip".... caused his left side pannier fell off & opened up from the knock as well as his T/Box that also flung wide open.

I know it was not very funny for RideAlot ......but Geeeezzzzzzzzz.....just imaging the picture of me coming through the "washout dip" that RideAlot had just gone through & here in front of me.....nicely spread out alllllll over the entire road, is the contents of his L Pannier & T/Box (tin food, 2 minute noodles, clothes, towel, his "famous" tin coffee mug,....etc, etc, etc....) :lol8: :lol8: :lol8: :lol8: :lol8: :lol8:

Unfortunately his rear luggage rack that the T/Box was fitted to, had cracked & the 2 of us had to first make a plan to get it strapped back in place, picked up all his belongings that we recovered from their "temporary resting place allllllll over the road) & then continued on our way to get the other guys.

Hahah Shaun that was very funny for me too after i calmed down  :thumleft:  thx to you i could fix the stuff eith you rope and complete the trip!!!!!!
