Roof of Africa - 200 started, 26 finished !

Looked like it was one gruelling event.  These photos of an unlucky rider loosing his KTM during a river-crossing speaks for itself!

Its true that 200 started and 26 finished.

I heard that after the rain started and all the rivers were flowing quite strong. Because of this a lot of riders were time barred. The guys who finished that particular lap(1st) were allowed to race on day two.

All the other guys were not allowed to race because of the time bar.  They were allowed to do the 2nd lap but they could not qualify for a place. The organizers did not take weather conditions in to account and a lot of riders were stuffed because of this.

Apparently this is the biggest reason for only 26 finishers if all the others were allowed to race on day 2 there might have been more finishers.

A lot of the okes are pissed of badly and said they will never return???

Trying to cross this river is nothing but suicidal. The guy is lucky that only the bike went under.

I think the guy you see in the pic is Wade Steel-Smith.

There were 3 guys that lost bikes in the rivers, washed away.

Wade recovered his bike on the Saturday, 25km's downstream, located in a village.

The other guy only found his right front fork.

The third guy hasn't found his bike yet...
