Does one determine reliability based on?

  • High mileage aka 300 000 km on it before we deem it good without major incident? Boxer motor perhaps

I always smile when I see posts here (in fact all automotive forums) with someone claiming he has not a days trouble with their bike when compared to xyz who has had.....
Are we comparing apples with apples if we consider the above?
What else needs to be added above I'm sure there is a lot more?
