10 Day Scotland trip
« on: June 27, 2013, 06:56:28 pm »
My wife and i met up with a few friends and spend a few days on the Isle of Skye and in Ullapool.
Not going into a big ride report and bore you to death.Just some pics with a few explanations

The Trip

1st night   Peak District
2nd           Yorkshire
3rd            Glencoe
4+5           Skye
6/7/8         Ullapool
9/10               Yorkshire

2400 miles    11 days     45.5mpg(no idea in Kilo/ltr)

My bike ready to go

Peak District My mate runs a cafe there

my wife and I on the left, meeting up with friends from the forum(XRV)

Yorkshire,a forum member owns a campsite,  more about the area at the last stop

on route to Glencoe

Glencoe campsite and our walk to the pub

I have been here a few times but never seen it that beautiful

My wife on the river which goes through the campsite

On our way to the Isle of Skye.We took the little ferry near Glenelg which brings you to the rollercoaster

Start of the "Rollercoaster"

Wet Skye

Skye ride about

We where lucky that we had the use of a cabin for cooking(and drinking ::))

Supply table

Cooking corner

we tried cooking outdoors but where eaten alive by the midges

Leaving Skye the world was good again

Had to do a Photo stop here

Ullapool Campsite was a bit windy but the views are stunning.Situated on a loch you can watch the ferry come in twice a day

next day was one of my best riding days ever

Ullapool-Lochinver-Kylesku-Ullapool

my favorite shot of the trip

i promise this is Scotland

back in camp.I love cooking for my mates. I used to be a chef(Carlton and Joburg Sun,when it was still a 5star)

Leaving the pub at 00:30,still a bit of light

My mate found his new tent

Scotland says good bye

On the way home we stayed again at Takoda camping in Yorkshire. My mate from Holland took the Ferry from Newcastle so we spend a extra day with him to show him a bit of Yorkshire and the Lake disrtict

You can walk into this cave<walk through the under ground river to the back where there is a waterfall.Real cool 8)

The way out

Next we took him over the passes in the Lake district.Kirkstone,Wrynose and Hardknott.

Kirkstone

Wrynose and Hardknott

and they mean it

coming from Wrynose looking up Hardknot

Looking back to Wrynose

If you never heard of Hardknot have a look on Youtube, its the steepest and tightest pass i ever did

Our last night together

My little Panzer and myself

When was this? I'm almost offended you didn't swing by for a cuppa!  Might even have taken a day out to come play.  Did you do apple cross? And next time go on the road on the east shore of Loch Ness.

Nice photos there! Makes me jealous, wish I had a bike when I was over on Edinburgh for a year. It was freezing there compared to South Africa.
I really like the steep hill photos, looks like such a nice ride up the pass.

Thanks for sharing!

I saw this report on ADV as well. It takes big balls to camp in that cold weather.  :thumleft:

Great balls of Fire! (or ICE in this instance)

That looks HORRIBLE.

Only way I would survive that cold is to "spoon" my best friend (in the most non-gay-way-possible-ofcourse)

 :imaposer:

RESPECT for surviving that, let alone experiencing it.

Damn, some nice pictures bringing back some good memories.

I went kayaking around Lochmaddy and surrounds a few years back. Stunning part of the world.

The three worst hangovers I've ever had:

1. Stornoway
2. Talisker distillery on Skye
3. Ullapool.
