I am not being insentive, merely stating the fact.  Now on the XT1200z, we do not have any of these problems.   :pot:

I certainly do not on any of my “primitive” BMWs (or Guzzi) have this problem. I have ridden through countless rivers, sometimes days on end in torrents of rain, soaked to the bone and this was one situation that never even possibly entered my mind. Strange that modern technology appears often to create more problems than solutions. Or more qualified: modern technology maybe as applied by certain entities, because (and BMW comes here in particular to mind) then other companies come and redesign and rebuilt the same component and voila, problem solved. Another good example coming from BMW was its rear disc brake where the caliper broke off and ripped the spokes. Until some company in Australia redesigned it.  It boggles the mind where you take into account the amount of money they ask you to fork out for their product.

I am sure the new 1250 LC will produce it's fair share of new issues, just like the first models of the 1200 LC.  Just the new Cam Shift technology on it's own is going to, IMO, produce endless headaches until it is perfected.  Running through the rev range from standstill to top end on a perfect German Autobahn is one thing, but riding high speed gravel, with the constant fluctuations in RPM and power requirements may just overwork the shift function a little.

I have always maintained that you stay well away from the first 2 years of a new model, regardless of whether it is a car or a bike.

I am busy with my second Alternator replacement on a 2013 (first year) LC.  What a mission.  Motor out, clutch off, gearbox out!  WTF were they thinking?

I believe the alternators were upgraded from 2015, so no issues with those ... yet.
I came here to drink milk and kick arse!  And i've just finished my milk.
