Pity I got quite excited.  So still looking....

If he wants/must to get rid of it...I won't mind a project bike  (just saying  ;) )

He's based in Edenvale.  If you want I can PM you his details?

Alan, I at first considered the "inexpensive" route... cheapy, tinker a lot and ride. After speaking to a few experienced trials riders I decided on a decent ( bit pricey) bike that for now I can just enjoy and ride, because that's what you want to do. Be in the bush and not your workshop.

Sadly, to do that, I had to sell my one daughters unused bike, but I'm having fun all the time and she's happy for me  :thumleft:

Ja - I dont really have the time.  Arent riding enough as it is.

So will keep looking for a bargain that actually runs and wont need a few months worth of work.

Sorry still no pics, but thought I'd share. Had my first real trial ride yesterday. Played around in the river valley close to my house. One particular spot has some nice windy climbs up die kloof face. Just outside my comfort zone, but it went very well. Good spot where you can progress in steps.

This was the kicker. On the way to the riding spot there was this one rocky section with a steep, smooth drop about 10m long. I was dubious, I can paddle down, but how do I get back up. No worries, says my instructor, he'll ride it back up. Good then.

Whole afternoon I had that rock face in my head, I can do it , just focus. With the afternoon practice done my confidence was high. We returned and got to the rock face. Masehare, it looked daunting. Focus, gooi 1000 yard stare and go. Warra lekka feeling. Just one touch and I was at the top. Baby steps  :thumleft:

I'll take  a pic when I get my camera back.

Next time try on the XT that thing can climb amazing things  :pot:

This is so lekker to see! I love trials bikes, only thing is that they are very, very one-dimensional. But if you have the right terrain and maybe a riding partner, they can be huge fun.
Very difficult to ride really well though. In one competition I was called "ole paddlefeet" by an elderly gent spectating. :eek7: :o
I use to ride with Duncan Barson, and have heard lots of Tony Or[r]ey? , top rider.

Ok I am in.... Been reading the treads now just need to get the A into G and do it.

Going to have a look at a bike tomorrow at Graham Harris's place.
It's a 2004 Beta rev 3 270 - any comments on it as beginners bike welcome.

Jup.... what boots did you get in the end? or did I miss that somewhere.
How much did they set you back?

Besides the bike, boots, helmet and a sense of humor is there anything else I will be needing?

Thanks

W

Hey Wookie, I've been off the radar a while and have not played for two weeks. Looking forward to tomorrow afternoon.

I got Novagar boots, the polished leather one, because they did not have the soft suade type in stock. Think it was R2 500.00 incl courier. I have an openface helmet, but will want to get a proper trials one. Then gloves and knee guards. The latter very important. Hydration pack ! If like me you go play in the bush away from your car.

About the bike I can't help you much. Still too novice myself. I knew where my bike came from and was told to buy it, its the right one.

Enjoy, I'm loving it and can already feel the difference slow riding and balancing my commuter bike in traffic.

Graham Harris will sort you out with no issues - best dealer ever.
He imports the novogar boots, get some.
Helmets WOA used to have cheapies, otherwise get from Graham

Grim , Jupiter.... thanks for the info.

Met with Graham today to have a look at the bike.... what a pleasure to deal with the man and 100% passionate about what he does.  :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:

I know something like squat about trials bikes so Grahams honesty was impressive as he took me through all the bits and pieces that were not 100% on the bike. Most of these he is in process of sorting out and should have them done sometime next week. This will leave only cosmetic stuff like decals, otherwise the bike looks like it has seen very little abuse.

So the bike has my name on it and sale is subject to final inspection when he is done (his rule not mine  :3some:)
He has also sorted me out with Novogar boots and I opted for the Airoh helmet.

Roll on next weekend.... ;D
