Sunday 16 December 2007, 08h00 .... 5 Wild Dogs of the Port Elizabeth Kennel meet to go on an outride, i.e. go exploring some dirt roads found on the 1:50 000 Topographic Map No. 3325CC .... The Dogs that reported in ready for the ride were:  Watty, Capt Slow, Kampies, Crab and Swaer.  Although the rain clouds looked threading, and Capt was mumbling something about the dangers of mud, slippery roads and that his yellow fisherman oil-skins were not as watertight as they use to be, they set off with expatiations and an eagerness for adventure only other Wild Dogs will understand.

Starting in Lorraine, they zig-zagged through the dirt back roads of Theescombe, made a little turn in the Draaifontein area, before crossing the N2 highway into Rocklands.  After about 15 km of nice gravel riding, and dodging the ever present cow dung barriers that seemed to occurred across the road at every second farm gate  ...  after all this was dairy country ... they rejoined the old national road at Lady Slipper and made their way to the Van Stadens Wild Flower Reserve - the first planned stop.  Unfortunately this area was recently severely damaged in a devastating veld fire and the protea and fynbos flora was unfortunately not to be seen in any quantity.

Photo 3 - A few rain drops started to fall, and Capt Slow is into his personalized yellow outfit
Photo 4 - More rain drops on leaving the reserve. Now Swaer is also into his orange rain pants (and I thought that dogs like water?)
