Dragon Rally 2013
« on: July 31, 2013, 12:00:36 pm »
So after a lot of of yes, no, maybe and budgeting, most of the club decided - screw the landlords, banks, credit card companies etc - we are going to the Dragon rally!!!!

We all organised to be off on Friday, the kids each got a letter to inform school that they would be absent, due to having something way better to do and we were set!

My bakkie and trailer were back up vehicle and everyone met at my pozzie, we packed the bakkie and trailer and were ready to roll.

First stop to fuel and top up on oil etc.

Then onto the highway, taking a casual ride down to the South Coast, laaities first ride on the highway and some of the pillions first bit of distance riding as well.

First smoke break was at Ifafa, then at the tollgate.

Shortly after the Bandit ran into reserve, so we stopped off at Ramsgate for fuel and some supplies. The Bandit is thirsty !!!

A quick dash and we were at the rally site, checked in and got our camping spot. Camps was set up quick quick and then it was time to relax and have a few ice cold beers  ;D.

So after replenishing the hydration levels, we did a walkabout on the site, to take in the sights. Saw the fire dancers freaky psychedelic  tent, Marisan got a wild ride on the organizers quad and generally greeted and chatted to the various mates from the different clubs, pit stop at the bar, checked the tattoo stand and organised our new tattoos (will have to wait for next month though).

And then relaxed and kuiered the rest of the day. Late evening tweo bikes pulled in all the way from Maputo, we had plenty of meat left over from the braai, so fed them, gave them something to wash it down and loaned them a spare mattress as theirs got punctured by a tie down on the way.

Jagermeisters  >:D koppies was seer later die naweek !!!  :imaposer:

Saturday morning started with a mass ride with a difference. Everyone missions on their own and you have 5 pubs to visit and get your card stamped and draw a poker card (poker run), for extra entry into lucky draw.

Stopped first at Pistols Saloon, then onto Ramsgate Popeye's, Soutbroom Riptidem where we had a seriously mediocre over priced breakfast with the worst piece of boereworse, dry, tough and seningrig - I have ever had. Onto Port Edward Mothers and then lastly Port Edward The Pont.

Then back to the rally site, to relax and drink some more  ;D. Checked out the concourse bikes and kuiered with mates.

Checked the Dyno runs and then later on it was prize giving.

Marisan won one of the hampers. Very lucky on her first rally - her name was called Friday night as well, but she was in bed already and lost out on that one.

Quintin's streetfighter Fazer 600 (which needs a lot of TLC - he only got it a month or so ago) did 242 km/h on the Dyno - we were all impressed after just hoping it wont blow up - seems that engine at least is still sweet  ;D

Johan's Bandit did 286 km/h - not to shabby and some lekker flames out of the pipe !

Busa did 297 km/h previously on same Dyno - so did not put it on again.

Top speed was the one Maputo new gen Busa - 329 km/h

Also impressive was a Harley @ 242 km/h

And then the fire dancers and their flaming bicycle - runs only on the rims, which the light up and ride around on !!!!

Sunday it was nurturing a mother of babelaas for some  ;D and packing up and going home after a quick breakfast - stopped at the toll road for smoke break, Ifafa and then Pennington for fuel for that thirsty Bandit.

Nella was hung over and decided she is going on the back of the bakkie before possibly having a "Houston we have a problem" moment in her helmet.  ;)

Keanu was flou from kuiering with the manne the whole weekend and took a powernap next to the road at Ifafa :imaposer:

We got ourselves a new rally tent before the time, a Hi-Tec Tybet 3 man. Our large 6 man dome is a about 15 years old and moeg and to big for a rally. Was not in a mood for the big Lagoon diner tent either.

A bit tight and a double inflatable matress fills it almost entirely, but worked well for a weekend. Very warm and cosy inside - never got cold like in a Campmaster jobbie.

Used 2 extra poles to create an awning with the front flap and worked lekker to keep dew etc off and tent cool during the day
