Hoezit all, if u interested in how the new bee em 1200 gs
adventure performs
Herewith below
Yip got my boney last weekend and did 1219km by yesterday
Dropped it off at Bavaria for 1st service (1000km)
Went to a work conference in the berg with it and did a bit of gravel around
the natal berg area on the way back, also a bit of the golden gate area as
leonie got a lift to my place outside kestel so can tell u a bit about how
she rides two up too umm the beemer that is

First of all the bike is tall and heavy there's no denying, and at 1.75 im
not a short arse either. I have the seat in the lowest position and my feet
just touch the ground. it's a bitch to reverse or push back so it's a good
thing you have a pillion to help
But once aboard the bike melts around you and the big 33 litre tank offers
nice leg protection from the wind, not to mention the much improved taller,
well supported, stiffer screen
At one point two up and having luggage strapped on the rear carrier
(panniers not yet available ,delay from overseas bee em ) I was doing 165km
GPS speed (just to give her a go after the 1000km mark) AWESOME no head
bobbing in spite of riding with my arai tourex. No fighting to hold on.
Awesome protection and smooth ride at faster speeds
We stopped once in 300km because I needed a smoke the riding position and
comfortable seat is incredible
In fact the smooth run through the gears not clunky like my current 1150GS
is the first thing u notice then comes the pace at which you get to beyond
speed limits is scary, maybe due to not feeling the head wind
On the dirt she was just as responsive and I went up a few gravel passes
mainly alone so cant say two up but at the time wondered about all the fuss
re the gap between 1st and 2nd gear. the bike it seemed had more than enough
torque to handle what I had thrown at it
So as far as im concerned for the normal average guy I didn't feel that I
needed a lower 1st gear, or maybe I just went fast through the tight
sections who knows
I have to say at slow speeds one hears a lot of engine noise and again I
think its due to the extremely effective screen that allows u to hear more
bike noise and not let the wind distort it (it even has little wind
deflectors by the top of the tank)
Also this new bike has servo assisted abs and this alone makes a racket if
you not used to it
The abs can easily be deactivated for dirt in fact I did it a few times
simple just hold down the abs button before starting and turning the
ignition
Performance on the dirt was good considering I was running her in .I did do
bursts of speed up and down and hit a wash at speed at one point. no problem
she just soaked it up .I did feel she bounced hard at times but put this
down to the fact that shocks still stiff and im a lazy rider so I don't
deflate tyres for a bit of sand or gravel .but that's me
Bitches--- don't like that there is only one 12v adapter connection and
every time you switch off the bike ur GPS switches off
Certainly going to have a fixed 12v adaptor fitted by JJ at Big Country
Didnt like the fact that the bike comes without head light protection so I
fitted one from JJ and it looks stunning besides being functional

Heated grips stage 1 is too low for winter riding and stage 2 too hot
Will see what to do here
Bonus--- centre stand works well, well balanced and easy as pie to get bike
on centre stand
Computer dials giving trip 1 and 2 plus temp outside plus distance to go on
tank awesome features
In general I like the bike a lot it responds well on the throttle and the
ride is smooth. top speed riding just unbelievable
She handled gravel well so far but time will tell
She handles a pillion and luggage with absolute ease
I have my views on whether she will handle a fall as well as my 1150 GS but
I doubt it so don't drop her I think she will break big time even with all
the crash bars and pot protectors she comes out with
But as you know im getting older and wiser so I don't intend to go to wild
places with her .I think she will be more than capable for the long distance
touring scene for which I bought her
And I have added peace of mind with the 2 years warranty and 3 year road
side assistance should things go pear shaped

Hope this has giving a bit on what to expect
Will keep you posted"
