So get on the byways and then the freeway. On the way to Durbs I was slipstreaming a Hilux D4D who gave it foot. Saw 170 on the gps for the first time on the XR650L.
Got there just about on time.
Flex telling Trevor what it means to be getting old(er) and impressing us with tales of why the DRZ is a great bike.

We carefully avoided crocodiles that were laying there waiting to ambush unsespecting bikers.

Trevor had planned a cool route. Starting other side of the Umvoti we proceeded into the sugarcane fields for a leisurely ride up north to Umhlali.
From there through some forested area inlands. This was all good and manageable. As in typical tevorwb fashion a goat trail was seen veering off to the right and we knew that this could only spell adventure. The pics are a bit of a let down as we were too busy riding the bikes and only a few pics were taken. Flex had had a slippery lie down on the grass before and soon enough Trevor had manhandled the 950SE behemoth petrol bowser into a ditch. No probs then and we carry on.

The goat trail got a bit gnarlier and still thinking that I had been spared so far today from uncommon lie downs I was soon taught a little lesson.
Not very stylish then trying to pick up my bike.

We carried on until we got to what looked like a worthwhile hillclimb we now call "the slippery hill" - kmz file attached. A bit of a steep recent
cutting with drainage humps in between and very loose and rocky.
Flex gave it a go and again but the DRZ was spinning out the rear and not finding much traction. trevorwb then gave it a try on his 950
but also found the going less than optimal on his heavy bike. Peer pressure now on I could not back out and through delicate throttle
control made it up the climb without putting a foot down. My pride now restored I waited for the others. Soon enough I could hear Trevor's
V-twin spinning the wheel up the hill and we were 2. Flex went around the long way and we carried on and had an easy cruise back to Tongaat.
No pics for the rest of the trip but the See Belle curry was a definate highlight at the end of the trip. Best curry ever.

Thorsten that was a good RR,but I need to correct you.It was actually a sheep path and not a goat track. Those 2 goats were sheep. We will do the goat track next time.

260km that day and my numb was bum.
Next day was to be an easy cruise in the Valley. Met up with bushcat first and then the badger (Jeff) joined us for a chat at the Engen.
The badger's bike not right though so hopefully Jeff can join us on one of our next trips. Soon later Ryno and Bram pull in. Bram is the happy new owner of a 690 that is tricked out pretty well and new to dualsport riding. The consensus then was to do an easy loop through some of the nice parts of the Valley without getting too technical.
We rode about a 100km loop, mostly riding and at other times just chatting and drinking beer. Typical shabeen stuff and at R11 a bottle (750ml) this is good value for money.
Just some pics...

Thanks for a lekker ride in the valley, there were a couple of minor mishaps but nothing serious  :ricky:.

Some one rode into a cow, & came off second best, ended up ploughing, isnt the cow supposed to plough :imaposer:?

Some one else put their scoot down, one of those climb on, climb off the other side, moments  :pot:!!

And myself & Thorsten were entertained by the antics of the younger Generation  :laughing4:.

Big thumbs up to Bram for handling his new scoot, without too much fuss as a "fresh DS rider" :3some:,
Motorsport is the only sport, the rest are just GAMES!!

I was merely checking to see if the 800 is really that much heavier than those 690's.  :ricky: ha ha. Especially after it just sailed through that mud with such ease. :ricky:

Honestly though I must say, the 690 is allot heavier than I imagined when lying on it's side bru!!  :o
