83 XR200R
« on: August 20, 2013, 11:09:42 am »
Ive got a bloke who needs cash urgently (don't we all)

He has a 83 XR200R he is willing to sell me. No papers, no lights...off-road

What would be a good offer? He is busy cleaning the carb to get it started.

Does it come wirh electric coil so I can fit a headlight if I should take it? Is it 6v or 12v?
I'm not saying kill stupid people, I'm saying, remove the warning labels and let the problem sort itself out.

Condition condition...... What do you intend doing with it roadworthy or playbike? it should be 6v  if stock should be able to run headlight

Without papers it is probably best to keep it as a playbike . Loads of fun those bikes . The lighting system is 6V , barely enough to provide the power of a candle in the wind . It was easy to see when the brakes were applied - the headlights would dim from the extra load of the taillight bulb .
They used to break frames if they did much time at mx tracks clearing biggish jumps .

Cool. Thanx. Did check the frame for breaks and welds, couldnt find any. 6v headlight and led brake light for it will work.

What would be a reasonable offer?

Check that it is the 2 valve model ( R) not RE 4 valve.

The RE is less desirable

Its the 2valve model. We had a RFVC(i think) dual carb one that we couldnt get rid of quick enough

They have rubbish centrifugal oil pumps, you need to clean them out when you service the bike.
Best is to get a roller bearing conversion done on the camshaft.  :3some:
