Would this bike be good for a female (me) - keeping in mind i don't do my own repairs (I have a very happy mechanic) and dont do any heavy offroading

Could be koekrooster, depends on your height though. This bike is a bit high, and its also quite a heavy machine. But if you're a big girl should be fine. If you are as small as my SWAMBO, forget it!  :imaposer:

Dry weight- 123kg's! Dont get lighter than that, in a 600/650. Height is an issue and its kick start, which could be a problem if you vertically challenged!

Nope - can't and won't do a kick start.  Got stuck in a forest in mpumalanga on a mates farm with one of those once and never again - eventually left the bike there and walked back.

How do the DR and KLR compare in terms of performance, reliability, suspension, running costs etc?

I found the KLR very washy on the front wheel, but I suppose the suspension can be upgraded?

Upgraded progressive front suspension makes a huge change. If you have done that, the doohickey and thrown away the stock handlebars in favour of fat Pro Tapers, the basics are sorted. You can fine tune a bit more over time.

Le Cap will probably be able to provide you you a good comparison between the KLR and DR, even though it will be sort of biased towards the DR. Off the cuff, I believe the KLR to be a better "distance" tourer while the DR may be a bit more nimble in the rough stuff.

what would it cost to upgrade the suspension?

I have fat pro-tapers in my garage just waiting :-)

KLR and DR endless debate - but i have owned both and will say this:  The KLR is initially more comfortable but a lot heavier and more complicated than the Suzuki DR650.  Both will do the job, the DR650 just ticks all the boxes for me.  Simple, light, easy to maintain and a lot of fun!

Love the one you are with

see if you can beat TwoOneFour on an outride, with him on his Husky. Not that he races, but he will go places you will not believe possible.

1: Good Condition
2: Good Price
3: Good Performance

You have to choose 2 of the three

It actually can sit at 140 all day long, but then you lift your revs above the magical 5000 rpm and it starts using oil. And it vibrates. For cruising all day long the sweet spot is around 120 km/h.
