CRF 450X - prepping for a long trip
« on: September 14, 2013, 12:06:19 am »
I am so used to taking my Transalp on long trips, it is so easy with 6000km service intervals.. but with the CRF450 what do you do?

I have been asked to go and do some riding in Moz and I am pretty sure it is going to be in the more remote regions.. it is going to be long days, sandy stretches.. about 10 days.

I take it I will have to take oil and oil filters, I will take a spare air filter and air filter oil

What else should I be thinking about ?

Use good oil and do an oil change on day 3 or 4 (depending on how "long" the days were).
I would only change the motor oil.

Check the oil level when you fill up each time, 'till you are comfortable with the oil usage. (did ~900km this weekend on my CRFx and it did not use a drop :D )
Do you have SS valves? If not, you might have to check valve clearance.

Well the okes I bought it from said I have SS valves, I haven't personally checked.

Oil every 3rd day is not too bad, days will probably be around 300km on average.

very funny.. yes I won't go on a long trip without a new chain and sprockets.

Looks like the trip is still on.. I will be looking for some small soft panniers soon, just for tools and a spare tube.
