true, but I believe stuff like rims that bend, shocks that seize, axles & maybe even front forks might be interchangable with some chinese cheapies that are scattered all over the place

Believe me you don't want to replace anything non Chinese with a Chinese spare.

Unless you like to turn your bike into some sort of a post apocalyptic rust covered (static) sculpture ::)

Royal Enfield is a super effective bike for use in Africa - it's cheap, simple, easy to ride, loads of torque and basically indestructible. Sounds like the best bike for the job.
